Does anyone use this Hanna PH tester?
Description: Hanna Instruments Waterproof pH Tester with Replaceable Electrode w/ accuracy ±0.05 pH
Is it good?

We'd need a model number or a picture to say much, but if it can take pH 7 and 10 calibration points, it's likely okay.

That should be okay. I'd be sure to get some good pH 7 and 10 calibration solutions.

Bertoni -- Can pH calibration solution be re-used?

I only use the single-shot pouches. I don't think most calibration solutions are reusable.

Thank you -- another person mentioned that the pH 10 solution would be rendered useless due to CO2 exchange after opening. The Hanna pH unit I purchased instructed me to save the calibration fluids if I recall correctly. I appreciate the 2nd opinion

What do you guys recommend for an inexpensive pH monitor?
Sorry to high jack your thread...

I use an Oakton pHTestr unit that I like, but it's more expensive. This pHep should be fine, if calibrated properly and kept clean.

I have that Hanna meter. It works good, but the temp feature takes for freakin' ever to settle on the temp. Its supposed to be very accurate so I use it as a double check for my controller, but it takes several minutes to get a solid reading.

just clarify my post...
The PH function works well... and quickly too. Its the temp reading that is very slow.

It has a .5 resolution?
What is this I hear about the PH: 10 calibration fluid being rendered useless... Is it true?

I'm not sure what you mean. The single-use pouches of pH 10 solution should be fine if stored properly and used before expiration, assuming the brand is good.

I bought the 4, 7& 10 solutions to calibrate it....was that the right thing to do? Also is the calibration a simple process or are there any tricks to share?

Calibration with the 7 and 10 solutions should be fine for measuring reefs. Does the meter accept three calibration points? I thought it only took two, but it might take three.

The marine depot customer service person told me it would be incredibly accurate if we did all 3 calibrations....so I went with that....maybe someone that has one can tell me if I got sold a bill of goods?

It'll be better for testing solutions between 4 and 7 if it's calibrated with those buffers. I wouldn't expect calibration at pH4 to help with testing a tank, well, a tank that's still live, anyway.

Yes, unless you plan to put discus in your reef.
