GEO Calcium reactor setup ?
Hello,
I am installing a new Geo reactor. I have two ph monitors. One is in the sump, and the other is in the reactor and is controlled by an AC. Jr. The problem is that the ph on the two meters is never the same. They are both calibrated and everything but there is a .02 or so difference. I do not have co2 going through the reactor yet but was basically wondering if it would be better to put the PH monitor that will control the reactor in the sump as well? What do you think? |

Hi Rob,
I too have a Geo Calcium reactor and a PH probe (being controlled by a lighthouse controller). My STRONG recommendation is to have the 1 controller inside the reactor and have that probe control the flow of CO2. Remember that the flow of water coming from your reactor is a tiny stream/dribble and by the time it would affect your tank PH enough to shut off, your media will be mush. The best thing to do is to put your ph probe in the reactor and set it for 6.75-6.85 and then test your calcium and alk and adjust accordingly (the media you are using makes a difference too, but I am assuming you are using the ARM that the reactor came with) Remember too that your 2 ph reactors will usually read differently (mine do). The reason is that the one on the tank is in the refugium that gets its water from the tank and the other is in the CO2 reactor. The 2nd probe in my opinion is a safety feature so that I can see what the tank's PH is whereas the probe in the reactor is just controlling the CO2. |

Thanks! Since I am using the controller does it matter what my effluent drip rate is? I have it wide open now.

One more ? You said to set 6.75-6.85 so I have to set it up so the solenoid opens when the ph is above this range and then shuts off when this ph is reached right?
