you can't mess with Schilling in game 6, it's a historical fact. add to that an offense that is patient and capable and you have an unstoppable force. Manny and Papi didn't even do much, and the Sox were still dominant. Now it's up to Dice-K.

I think if Francona was smart, he would pitch Beckett on 3 days rest tonight. You can't hold back in an important game like this. Dice-K has been too shaky in the playoffs. Then, say the Sox would win tonight, you can start Matzuzaka in game 1 of the series. Even if he loses that game, you have Shilling for game 2, then Beckett for game 3. Either way, the SOX WILL WIN!!

this game is critical for sure, but i think Dice-K needs this start. he has been studying tape, and no doubt wants this chance to redeem himself. Beckett and Wakefield are ready to step in if he gets in trouble. the smart thing for Francona is to be ready to pull Matsuzaka very early if need be. The bullpen is strong, and there's no reason to diddle around hoping he will get things back together if they start to come apart. I think it's important to let Dice-K deal, though.

Good point. I just hope Francona knows when to pull the plug on him. I'm sure he'll make the right decision. But in this game, there's no holding anything back. You may see a rare relief appearance from Beckett.

If Beckett does have to come in, then that's the way it will be. Francona knows what's up and there's no doubt that he wants this as bad as anyone.
