Whoa! Hitchhiker crab (no pic)
Surprised to see some shiny black claws emerge from a hole in a rock this evening, grabbing stuff and shoving it into a crab's mouth. Very shiny black with an irridescent green overtone. I didn't see any hair, but the body of the crab didn't emerge from the shadows. I estimate the crab to be about 1.5 - 2" long. It fed itself for a few seconds, then seemed to see me looking at him, and went "POOF!" Disappeared.
It's my first animal hitch hiker (that I know about). It's in a 30 gallon cube with an RBTA, clarkii clown, dwarf flameback angel, 2 neon gobies, and several hermit crabs. I haven't noticed any damage to anything, except maybe my snails don't seem to live very long. Should I worry about getting him out? |

It is highly likely that it is something to worry about. While it may not (or may) pose a threat to corals, it will in due time devastate any other life that you paid for by buying live rock. Not reef safe at all in my opinion. Please see the crab section below.
