Pistol Shrimp hitchhiker

Posted this in the invert section, but wondered if any of you guys kept pistol shrimp...
Randals pistol hitchhiker

Got a few hitchhikers on a coral I picked up today...one is a Randals pistol shrimp. Have not ID'd the other two yet.

Keep it or sell it is my immediate question.

What are the cool things/advantages and what are the negatives to such an animal.

Have a 220g mixed reef with lots of fish including several small clown gobies.

I have several hitchhicker pistol shrimp from my LR that was from the Gulf of Mexico. I rarely see them and only know they are there from the clicking at night.

I say keep em.

Yeah, I've been looking at getting a peacock mantis for the extra 30 gallon tank I have laying around.

I have a mantis in a rock with some green mushrooms, got it from ARockkid on this forum.

Not sure what kind, its all green.

Pistol shrimp of this sort is not a problem for any other inhabitants then, Chris no problems you have noticed with the ones you have...

I am thinking about buying a randals pistol shrimp. If you do not want it, I am pretty interested. LMK. Also I was just asking about pistol shrimps in the invert forum as well. Here is the link with some more info

No issues at all. The only time I really think about them is when someone is over at night and asks "what's that clicking noise".

I may have a mantis or two in my tank, not sure. I saw one of them once when I initially put the rocks into my 55. Never seen them since.

Ill think about selling/trading them.

Here are shots of the pistol and crabs that came in today.

Any specific ID's would be great.

I don't have an ID, but that crab looks as if it's been lifting weights!

Kurt- I would keep those commensals. Were they in a Pocillipora?
Note how the shrimp mimics the crab.

Yes, they were on a purple Pocillipora. There was the pistol shrimp and two crabs (same species crab) all living in the center of it.

The crabs do not have the "Hairy legs" that are suppose to help identify bad crabs, but its better to be safe before putting them in a tank. As you know its hard to remove anything once its in there.

Thanks for the word "Commensal" it helped me find the information in a google search.

Guess the crabs at least will go into the tank.

toss the shrimp in, too. It's OK- they're not going to do any harm.
I have the same ones in my aquarium.

Kurt- I've been look for a frag pink halo P. damicornis since I started up my present aquarium. It's not a rare coral by any means but I haven't seen any in the stores for quite some time and nobody (apparently!) has any to frag around URS. Congrats on picking up a nice coral!
If you ever frag it....

No problem Gary, would love to trade for a frag of one of yours in the future. Hopefully I can plan a trip to Rochester soon.
