12gal AQUAPOD, or go with JBJ?

sorry if there is an existing thread on this topic. couldnt see one.

which one is better?
i know these are both considered the high quality models compared to like cube masters. my LFS told me that the aquapod is a little more silent, and he says its overall better.

any thoughts? i have the 12gal aquapod right now, i got it from him for $120 no tax. but i havent opened it yet, and want to keep my options open

I have the Aquapod and it is great, just needed to upgrade the pump to a MJ900 and add a Koralia 1 for more flow. I have done a few other mods to it as well, you can find them in my build thread here on RC. The main reason I wen with the AP over the JBJ was the stock lighting: 54 watts on the AP > 48 watts on the JBJ. If I was looking at a new one right now, Marine Depot has the AP with 70 wat MH on sale for $150 + an extra $30 for shipping weight + shipping. I'm tempted to order that just for the light, light is normally $220+, could always use the extra tank for a QT or a sump.

If the link doesn't work you'll have to search on their site or use the link to browse by manufacturer, it's on page 8. For some reason when you go to Current on the tanks page it only lists the CF version.

I love my JBJ, but I'm beginning to think I like the Aquapod's shape better. (Its wider and shallower)
