SW-VA Reef Club Picture Thread!

since we have a new forum, i think we should have a new photo thread.

maybe we can get to the point where we continually update it and get it to a sticky status.

let's see if we can't revive the picture thread...

Took a few today hopefully have a few more soon. I'm no expert with a camera so the pictures are not great.

My black and white ocellaris clowns have darkened up nicely. Only a small hint of orange left on their lips.

i've just got my 50g cube....this pic was 2 months ago. have added a few goodies since then. but trying to limit myself on how many corals i have to make it more aesthetically pleasing....so only keeping my best stuff for now on.

and....i upgraded my 7g minibow mantis tank to a 10g, b/c of this new addition. say hello to my little friend!! (he's about 3-4inches)

Right now we have just the 30 cube with a Rose Anem. Clarkki , and a citrus goby... and our 72 Bow comunity ... Among all the other pets... A lot of those pics were just pics I have wanted to post for a while ...

I LOVE the Mantis ..more pics would be sweet! .... How long have you had him ? and what does that guy eat for dinner?

actually, i meant Eric (Cwebbhokie)...but the same question applied to you too.

i just got this mantis a couple of weeks ago. he was living in a ~2g pico cube tank on the desk at Atlantis in Richmond for about the past 2 years after they found him in one of their big show tanks.

apparently he was eating small snails and hitch hiker blue eyed acro crabs....but i havent seen him touch anything like that yet.

he's slapped around 2 big bad crabs i put in there, and an urchin, but only when they got close to his cave.

he has been eating frozen mysis......but to my amazement he is also taking flake food i give to the clown fish in there which is VERY rare IMO for a mantis to take flake food.

so far, he is the coolest mantis i've ever owned. he comes out and looks at me time to time if i sit down in front of the tank. and he'll come out and chase around flake food. every other mantis i've owned i virtually never saw other than their eyes sticking out of the cave.

if i ever have to take a break from the hobby (coral keeping), i will definitely set up a 20g tank with a big ole' peacock mantis in it and a single fish. that would be fun to keep. theres lots of sweet youtube videos of big peacock's in their own tanks.

Yeah, I'm just trying to infuse some life into an almost otherwise dead local board. There have been a few things posted lately but not many pics (other than Hypertek99, nice corals by the way) so I was hoping to see some other people's "pride and joy." It doesn't matter what you have, whether or not it is "cool", "limited edition" or expensive. Some of my favorite pieces are junk to other folks, they just need to be given a fancy name to be considered the next best thing since sliced bread. (I'll have to put up a pic of 'Polyps McGee' once it grows out... Matt knows what I'm talking about.) I tend to think our local group has gotten away from ome of the main aspects of the hobby, which is rejoicing in the fact that these complicated (and some very simple) creatures can grow and thrive in a glass box in our homes and not just in the ocean where they belong.

If I am wrong speak up... If not show me some pictures... Heck you don't even have to be local to SWVRC to post a reef pic if you want people to see it and appreciate it here. I know I will appreciate it, regardless of how insignificant you think it may be. Everyone is at different stages in this hobby...

Alright, my drunken tirade is over, let's see some pics!!!

To answer your question Alex, I have 2 40 Breeders, a 30 gallon sump and a 30 gallon frag tank (the same drilled 30 gallon you gave Stripe & I) all plumbed together. We werent ready to setup the separate system yet and I needed to temporarily house some corals for folks during their tankwise transitional periods. (Thank god my system is kicking *** (relatively) and not killing their pieces.) It feels like a lot more responsibility when you are watching after corals that friends want back and not just your own stuff... It is a good thing though, as I am getting some much needed practice at husbandry and it is one of the few reasons why my tanks look as good as they do. My task now is to keep it up and strive to do even better.

Once again, SHOW ME THE PICS!!!
