If you want MMA here is a good gym in Kenosha, I've seen Strasser fight in the UFC and he has some good fighters in his gym.

Thanks Colin, I checked out the site. I am not out for blood, just conditioning and hand-eye coordination please.

Also looking for individual rather than group time. Thanks!

Any particular reason you listed Muay Thai and MMA?

if you want conditioning you might want to check out the Gurnee Judo club. My uncle is an instructor there, or he was. It is a good place to start.

What are your main goals aside from conditioning?

Hello Pasion, thanks for lead. Apparently I'm most comfortable with Muay Thai elbows and kicks according to my last trainer, not to mention it's very fun for me. It was mixed with traditional boxing. Then, he started to incorporate MMA techniques and capoeira into the sessions, but I then I stopped. I want to pick up again. (not feeling so hot) I really like the burst training or interval training with active rest.

My main goals are conditioning, hand-eye coordination, strength, weight loss.

Does your uncle provide one on one instruction? I don't want to go to class or be part of a club.
Thanks again!

I'm not too sure what his involvement is with this anymore, he's either an instructor for the classes or a judge for their competitions. I will ask him and if he is not in the capacity to help you, I will make sure to get a reference or two for you.

I like Muay Thai myself, although I can't train anymore due to the broken leg of mine... but if I were able to train, Muay Thai/Boran and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu would be my top 2 for sure!

Capoeira looks like so much fun, although I can't see any practical use for it in any given scenario other than dance clubs - lol. I wouldn't mind trying it out for a few.

I will also ask a few of my other buddies if they know anyone in the Northern area who would be good. I have a few buddies who train, a few that fight in amatuer comps, so they should know a few people.

Too bad you aren't south of Chicago. I am currently helping to start a MMA curriculum at Tri-Star martial arts in Bourbonnais. I have about 6 years in the fight game and we also have a very skilled Muay Thai Kickboxer running the standup portion.

Go to www.go4MMA.com for some details otherwise PM me

Thanks DougSupreme, too bad I'm far north. Sounds like you are going to have some fun with that curriculum. Good luck!

Pasion: That would be great if you can ask around!

I think we are going to have a blast. The owner of the school, the Muay Thai instructor, and myself have been friends/associates for several years. We all get along extremely well, and I think this venture will be highly successful. All we need is some interest.
