Just stumbled onto your thread. Beautiful woodwork; VERY classy. Maybe you can give Melev some advice so he can finally finish his 14 day project .

Hope those great new little frags grow up, so you can spread the goodness.

Some long overdue updates. First a few pictures:

Left side of the tank:

Right side of the tank:

Purple cap and a few others:

Red cap:

Green elkhorn:

Green cap:

Green "fat" birdsnest, table acro, green milli (check out that base!):

Pink milli:

I really regret putting the monti caps in the tank. They just grow too fast and take over everything. I have to frag off pieces every other week and am about to break off about an acre to take to a frag swap.

Growth is good, but not excellent. This is probably mostly due to the fact that I don't do water changes as often as I should. I have 0 phosphate and 0 nitrate buildup. I still think I could use a few more fish actually.

I haven't added anything to the tank in a year (no frags/fish/etc.). I was surprised a few months ago however to discover an outbreak of those mini-starfish things you see on the glass. They just started showing up one day. No harm, but I'd like to find something that eats them.

Thanks for the update. I'd like to see a shot of the full wall once again, with the tank at its current level.

It would seem you'd have more growth by now, if it has been a full year. It might be worth getting your LFS to confirm all your readings just in case one or more kits are inaccurately reporting test results.

I recently found out my nitrates are sky high, and am working on fixing that. If you really have 0 PO4 and NO3, growth should be pretty awesome, assuming you have the proper Alk, Ca, & Mg, as well as 1.026 sg.

And stable temp.

Those corals don't ask for much, do they?

Thanks Iris.

Marc,

nitrates are 0 with salifert
phosphates are 0 with salifert and D-D

Growth has been better the last 6 months, before that I don't think I ever got my Ca reactor tuned right to keep things stable enough.

Also keep in mind I started with all frags...most of which were added about a year ago. So given a 3-6 month acclimation period I think growth is ok on most and spectacular on some (green birdsnest, monti caps, elkhorn, the table acro above, and green bottlebrush).

Wow, I see what you mean about those montipora caps! Makes me rethink the current placement of ours.

As has been said already, excellent job on the wood work and tank setup. Of course I will continue the quest for more pictures and ask to see the belly of the beast, your sump and equipment setup. I'm interested to see how you budgeted your space in such a small space; compared to most in walls that have a basement sump or fish room, you have done just as well with a standard in-stand setup it appears!

Cheers,
Marty

The only way I could get away with not having a fish room was to have the cabinet space to the sides of the tank. The rough square footage of "floor" space for equipment is something like 20 sq ft. I've actually got plenty of space and use the area to the left of the tank for mostly storage.

My RO/DI unit and freshwater reservoir however are in my pantry.

Here are a couple more pics...I actually meant to post these before but forgot...

very nice. long overdue update is better than none (even though its my first time seeing this thread) are those green caps growing on the bottom of the tank or is it just lots of frags?

Both. I initially had a piece growing on the bottom between the rock piles, but the cap on the rock "overtook" it. The other pieces to the left are fragments I've broken off while cleaning the glass. I sell some here and there but green monti caps are pretty common so I'll probably just have to throw some of those out to clean up the tank a little.

Don't necessarily throw them out, try drying them out in your garage or outside somewhere. The flat skeleton, although thin, is good for mounting frags, and is quickly covered in coralline once reintroduced.

I looked through your pictures again, your SPS sure like encrusting! I have never seen an acro or milli with that large of a base without a likewise huge branch structure. I'm sure it will balance out once they start growing up and out. Quickly.

Cheers,
Marty

I think its trying to tell me it doesn't want to get blown away. Its trying to put down its roots so to speak!

Not a bad idea on the monti caps there! I suppose I could also always crush them up (after drying) and put them in the CA reactor. Anybody ever done that before?

I love the cabinetwork. Your corals look great. Who am I to complain about growth rates? I've got some corals that barely grow while others grow quickly. It just 'seemed' like they'd be bigger after 12 months.

That tiny Geo reactor is cute.

Wow, nice growth and color Jason. I can see some of my little frags have become nice size colonies now. Good job.

Thanks Quoc! (And congrats on TOTM last month) There are a couple that have barely grown at all - but quite a few have really been growing fast lately. My favorite is probably the pink milli - its just got really great color. I'm expecting growth on all of these to really take off this year with the whole exponential growth thing... Unfortunately that purple cap is growing just too fast! I've fragged and sold large pieces of it several times already!
