However, having all of the livestock (at least the mobile members) not visible all the time is a plus IMO. It will keep things interesting and offer a lot of surprises for infrequent viewers of the tank.

![]() I have pretty much decided on the MH vs. the Solaris. As much as I enjoy the technology behind the Solaris on my 120 I like the look of the MH a lot better (there I said it). The lighting will be built so that it can be moved completely away from the tank for maintenance.

I have really decided on Glass as I've even managed to scratch glass in the past and with maintenance not being one of my favorite aspects of reef keeping (is it anyone's?) I'm sure I'll wind up rushing things here and there and having a mess of a tank in a year or two if I go with acrylic. As of now there will be no front access. The lighting will be movable so I can lay over the top of the tank on a catwalk type system to get to the front.

I don't really like the light mover concept too much. Lighting should be finalized just as the tank order is completed as the two are tied together pretty tightly.

They make them for the AP702 up to the AP1006 so there are a # of sizes. What skimmer are you looking to put it on?

![]() I have bought his rocks before and love them. They will be the majority of what goes into the large tank for sure.

I think you would be better off with just a big bucket. I got a 105 gallon poly tank from tank-depot.com for $200 shipped. I bet you could get a large enough tank for a 50% water change for less than $500,plumb it and throw a Dart on there and still be under 1k, although you don't get a free bucket of salt.....

Looks amazing Albright!
Your build is very similar to what I am planning for down the road so I hope you don't mind a few questions about your planning. Like yours my planned tank location takes the tanks directly under the trunk from the furnace - what do you plan to put on the roof to cover that up to avoid water damage in there? Looks like you've decided on glass over acrylic - just wondering about drilling the bottom of of a glass tank as opposed to the acrylic - does anyone know what the limitations become? Keep us posted this will be great to follow along.

Albright,
Have you decided on a builder for the tank? I'm currently thinking of moving, again ... and i'm trying to price out a 120" x 36"/42"/48" x 30" glass tank .. as well as figure out if i'd be more feasable to have it built on site by local glass shops ... kind of a scary thought though - if you ask me.

Hi Albright,
I just got through reading this thread and all I can say is wow! I had my picture taken next to your skimmer at MACNA, can't wait to see what it does on a stocked system. Some insight on the mixing system, We used them in the mom and pop store I used to work in...... they're not the best thing. Nice concept but not enough volume for anything to be good. The auto fill system they come equipped with fail horribly too often. You're much better off going with a poly-container and a nice pump for your mixing and transfer. If ya ever need another pair of hands to help ya out, let me know. I'd love to see this set up first hand! Matt |
