Marine Plywood
I am sure this question has been asked many times but I can't seem to find the answer (quickly)...
Is it recommended to use Marine Plywood when building a hood for your tank? I'm looking to build a hood for my AGA 92 Corner and am just starting the research on that. Thanks, Chris

I actually didn't know there was marine plywood - how is it different? ive never seen it used, just need to seal the inside of the hood - you can go with a durable polyurethane, but I've chosen an oil-based 2-part epoxy to seal mine.

Marine plywood
I've seen tank builds where people have used plywood for all but the front side of the tank then sealed it with the 2-part epoxy...guess that would work for the hood too.

holy crap that's expensive... $100 USD for a 4x8 sheet? Not worth it IMO

I use marine plywood on all my cabinet sort of work. Its nicer to work with and cost about the same as real cabinet grade plywood not the stuff get at HD and lowes. Its void free and the adhesive doesnt saturate the finish veneer layer so makes for easier staining if need be. I pay $80 for 18mm with either birch, maple or oak veneer.
Its definatly not a must have but is nice when its in the budget. Don |
