Great pics!! What were your experiences with them? LFS I work at got one the other day and he looks great for the most part. Fat if you look at him from head on, no visible signs of parasites and he was eating like a pig from day 1. I'm contemplating giving him a try except that he looks very washed out in color. Are they normally like that as juvies? He's around 3-3.5.

And show us some more pics people! Gotta be plenty of these out there.

Just got a 3 inch juvi yesterday, on sale for $19.99 at a local Petco (had to really observe him for ich and feeding). His color tends to fade now and then. He even has whitish vertical stripes at times. His face is white for the most part. Love the colors on this fish. Will take pics later.

Pale color, and especially stripes, are just a sign of stress in many Acanthurus species tangs. My PBT had them occasionally while in QT. Once settled in the main display, it *should* stop.

that's where i work so my fish and yours probably came from the same wholesaler. it was a special purchase sent out to a lot of stores in the company. keep a close eye on him. i took the plunge and got mine today too, so far so good. he looked even better when i came in to work today.. still pale tho. got him acclimating to QT right now

thanks! Its been easy to care for (since I already had the regal tang for more than a yr didn't have to do anything different). IMO mine is hardier than my regal. I've had to but all my fish into QT in the past because of ich with the hippo while the powder brown never showed any signs.

He's so active, I couldn't get a decent pic. When I got one, I realized there are salt on the glass.

Here's a class pic, minus the salt

nice!! mine is looking just like that now except he's not showing much red in his top fin yet. doing great in QT tho, eating and constantly foraging. I had a coupon plus my employee discount... can't beat $11.40 for a nice pbt

no they arent nearly as bad as powder blue's but like most tangs if they are there 1rst they can give new comers, especially other tangs, a hard time. I had to take mine out for two weeks when I got my anthias and midas blenny because he kept them in a corner. Once I brought him back he was fine. I had the hippo 1rst so they were never a problem together. The hippo is even bolder being the 1rst fish in the tank for a long time before the others. they get to be the same size as powder blue's.

I would characterize mine as assertive, but not aggressive. He was one of the earlier citizens of the tank, but he went in with three other tangs (purple, yellow and blue hippo) so he never got a chance to REALLY be king of the hill. He was the largest of the bunch at first, but I think the blue hippo has about caught him.
