Where did you buy your live rock?
On-Line or LFS? If you ordered on-line, did you like the rock (shape, size, color) they sent you?
Anyone order rock from Reefermadness? |

I've ordered from Reefer Madness. The Buna is good, not so good on the Kaelini.
I think I'm going to try some of the rock from PhisyBusiness. |

I HIGHLY (as in can't stress it enough) recommend ordering dry rock from marcorocks.com (since it's dry double the weight when wet for a closer idea of how much actual rock you're getting... ie 25lbs is about equal to 50lbs when wet)
It's the most gorgeous rock I've seen, extremely holey, easy to stack... couldn't be any happier with it. Then just get a few choice LR pieces from fellow reefers or online (I've used premium aquatics and was happy as well) to seed it. In less then a month I already have coralline growing and in no time at all you won't be able to tell which pieces were the dry and which I bought live. Do a search here for marcorocks and you'll see tons of happy people. |

I thought they had the cheapest prices with shipping. Are any of these others places cheaper? |

Most of the LR I see at the LFSs is barren, but expensive.
Most of mine came from Harbor Aquatics. I miss that place.

I cherry picked from the LFS. But I added more base rock than I did live and now you can't tell the difference. To be honest, I actually think the base rock is more live now than the actual live rock was. My next rock will come from Marco rocks.

Seeding base rock is always a good plan.

Walt Smith, Intl., via the old Flying Fish Express (which I believe was consumed by Foster and Smith). Nice fiji rock.

We bought 40 or 45 pounds from PremiumAquatics. Whatever it is so you get the discount...and hand picked the other 40 pounds from various LFS's. The rock from Premium was OK I guess. I got the uncured Fiji and it might as well have been base rock.....not much life to speak of and little coraline growth. The shapes and sizes were VERY nice though.

Originally I bought 100 lbs from a LFS going out of business. If I had not found this deal I would have bought from a local reefer. Since then I have swapped most of it out with large, cherry picked pieces of dry rock from an LFS. Shape in my opinion is really the most important thing, you can add a few small rocks and the life will spread.

LFS, I hate the idea of buying online and not knowing what the pieces will look like. Plus it always seems like it's hit or miss when ordering live rock online. Try to find a local lfs and ask when a new shipment is expected, I've done this a few times and have been able to walk away with a lot of great rock. T-Bone since your in in the bay area, check out sea splendor in Fairfield. They just got around 80 pounds of new rock 2 days ago, it's pricey at $6.99 but well worth it.

Pacific East, but I drove out there and hand picked it. By far some of the best rock I've seen. Side by side it makes Premium Aquatics rock look like base rock.

I've purchased from both Marine Depot Live and Pacific East. In fact, I have 100 pounds of Tonga rock from Pacific East curing in a trash can right now. I got it Friday and it looks spectacular. I asked for large holey pieces and they did a good job picking out the pieces. Don't forget if you buy on line you might save the sales tax. In Texas, that's 7.25% so if you buy a lot of rock, that might make a difference. To be fair, the Fuji rock I bought from MarineDepotLive two years ago was nice rock too, so if you don't mind the grab bag approach to rock, on line might work for you.
