Chow Mix.
What type of mix do you give your fish?
I have been thinking of buying some garlic to mix with vitamins and shrimp. Is this good for them or just marketing BS? Do any of you have recipes? Eric.

The garlic may merely help stimulate appetite, although it does seem to have medicinal benefits for people, so maybe fish too.
I used the plain seafood chowder mix that's available at the seafood counter in most grocery stores. I also toss in a bit of Selcon, a fatty acid supplement that fish seem to do well with also. Maybe some nori as well.

No flake food? Really?
You mean regular seafood for human consumption? Can it be canned? Anyone have any recipes for healthy fish? A helpful article? Eric.

Flake food is generally considered "bad" for most marine fish. Sure, they'll eat it. But it's not really the best thing. It's high in phosphate, and containers of it sit around for weeks and aren't the freshest by the time you get to the bottom.
I just used to get a pound or two of seafood chowder mix (for human consumption - why not? That's probably the best you can get), toss it in a blender, add a sheet or two of nori, some selcon, and pulse it. If you've got a big tank you could pour it into icecube trays and freeze it, and then take a cube of it out and let it thaw, or float it in the tank and let it melt on its own.

It makes sense. I wouldn't like to live on flake food either.
Do anemones take this too? Or do they need bigger chunks instead of mush from the food processor? Eric.

I used to feed my bubble tip anemone pieces of chowder, straight from the bag, before blending it. I just kept a small amount of the unblended stuff in my freezer, and I'd break off a piece and thaw it before giving it to the BTA.

What kinds of fish are you feeding?
Some need more veggie based diets, others need meat. If we knew what you were keeping we could pinpoint their needs for you a little better.

I should have posted this in the beginning of the post. Sorry. What recipe would work for them? Eric.
