Fish Suggestions?

Hello all,

I recently re-setup my 8 gallon Oceanic Biocube (had it for about a year until it crashed) and it's been running for about a month or so. As of now, my inhabitants include:

-about 8 pounds of live rock, 10 pounds live sand
-5 hermit crabs, 3 astrea snails, 1 "sand diver" snail (forgot the name)
-3 varying clusters of caulerpa
-assortment of zooanthids, 1 orange ricordea & various other mushrooms
-soft corals: torch, frogspawn, hammer, xenia, flower glove, yellow polyps
-frags: star polyps, brain, red flowerpot
(all the corals look great except the flowerglove which only has a few polyps out, it is near the light with minimal waterflow, should this be repositioned?)

Given these tankmates, I was wondering what type of fish you would recommend? I've been looking around and below are some of the choices that interests me:

-Bi-Color Blenny
-Purple Firefish
-Eibli Angelfish (scared its not reef safe, small size, would move to my 46 gallon FO tank when it outgrows the nano)

I was also thinking about adding a Fire shrimp to my tank.

Any recommendations would be great! Thanks!

-Eric

the fire shrimp would be a good addition. out of those fish I would say the purple firefish is the only one that would be able to thrive in that tank. the blenny gets 5" long, way too big. I dont know much about the angel but I know even the smallest dwarf angels need to be kaept in 20 longs MINIMUM. other fish that could be kept (not w/ th firefish), are small gobies (a trio of trimmas might be nice), any firefish, a pair of clowns, and one of the smaller cardinals (orange line, threadfin, not banner or pajamas).

also about the corals, the frogspawn, hammer, brain, flowerpot, and torch are all LPS. what is your feeding scedule? what is the lighting. as far as the flower glove I would try moving it down. also the flowerpot coral is known as a hard to care for coral w/ high lighting needs, and depending on your light it should be as close as possible.

If you're just looking to do one fish, you could probably get away with one tailspot blenny. Mine's doing great in my 12g

none of those is a good fish for a tank that small.
The fire fish is probably best but they are a pain!

how do you figure that a clown goby isn't a good choice. they only get a inch and a half total.

How are they a pain? From my experience, they are pretty hardy fish, the only thing you really have to watch out for is jumping. But if he's going with the BC8, it will have a lid.

You could also go with one of the smaller species of clowns. Perc/oscellaris.

I do think a clown goby would be a good choice. I was just commenting on the 3 fish listed in the first post.

Angel = really bad
Blenny = might be ok but should be the only fish
fire fish = see below

I had a fire fish in a 12 gallon nano cube, it ran for cover every time I came in the room. It kept jumping into the filter when the lid was closed. I put up a plastic "fence" and it still got back there one more time which turned out to be it's last because it landed on top of a wad of filter floss and died. Oh! and it launched out of the tank once when I was doing a water change.
I had that guy for a little over a year and will never have one again.

You know I was just about to recommend the court jester goby, even found the link to LiveAquaria and everything

I think they're cool looking, haven't had any experience with them though.
