i want a tang tank!
i have a 210 gallon display, a 90 gallon fuge and a 100 gallon sump. roughly 400 total gallons of water. i have close to 400 pounds of live rock in the display and the sump is full of rubble. i have 2 very good homemade skimmers made out of the 5 gallon water jugs. (there was a long post on here on how to make and well i made 2 of them!)... here is a list of tangs that i would keep. tell me if it is possible.
yellow desjardin sailfin blue hippo lavender powder brown purple achillies powder blue i know that the achilles and the powder blue are really delicate and would make sure these 2 fish imparticular are in the qurenteen longer to make sure they are healthier. all fish would be in quarenteen of course. would this be possible? miike |

I would not feel comfortable with that many tangs in a six feet long tank no matter what my water volume was. I'd narrow that list down to perhaps 4. PBT, Purple, Hippo, and Sailfin would be my choices.

no way all those tangs will live peacefully in the same 200G tank.

The number of tangs isn't the problem, it's the species. Yellow and Purple may fight and so may the Powder Blue and Brown.
I have a Blonde Naso, Yellow and Dussumieri Tang in a 150 and they are happy(probably not as happy as being in the ocean). They are fat and are happy to see me everyday, just like my dog. Your tank can handle the bioload, just the types of tangs are the thing to watch out for. Good luck |

Now I may be stealing this thread just a bit, but I am wanting something similar only my tank will be 96x36x30 and I'm wanting a very similar tang tank. Possible?

In a 210 those will be fighting for territory/swimming space.
4 max. The sailfin may eventually outgrow, yellows can be mean, achilles, powder blues and browns sensitive. That 8' tank could possibly work for those, get a good skimmer, add yellow last, make sure you have really good params/established tank for sensitive tangs.

I have 4 in my 240, Sailfin, Hippo, Purple, and a Kole. They all seem to get along, and are happy fish. I might push it to 5 with a sohol, but i think i would max out the space completly. I skim the crap out of my tank, (pardon the pun) and have lots of water volume. The fish dont seem stressed now, but who knows if i add another. Im not to willing to push it, i dont want to break down my reef to catch one that doenst work out.

My 3 tangs school together(even though they are different species), they eat side by side from the algea clip. I put the Yellow and Dussumieri tangs in at the same time, then later bought a larger Naso tang and they all seem to get along, the only fish that nips at the tangs during feeding time is my Lawnmower Blenny, they block him from the Nori.

I have 5 tangs in my 500.. 2 blue's, purple, kole, and a powder blue.. All get along fine, but my tank is 8' long..
Brokecoloreefer, I'd re-think the sohol.. I added one to my tank and he kicked the **** outta the other tangs. He wouldn't let them eat and chased them all over.. Took 3 weeks to get him out. Now everything is peaceful again. Happy reefing |

I hope this doesn't jinx me, but I have a sohol tang and it's pretty cool w/ all my fish, except for any tangs that I've tried to add after him.
I've added a maroon clown and mandarin w/ no probs, but it kicked the crap out of a sailfin I added after him. He gets along great w/ my tennenti tang, but that was there b4 him. I'd get small if you can, and definitely make him the last tang you add.
