Additional Light-Will My fishes and corals get shocked?
Hi All! I intend to add two more T5 ATI white lights. Will my fishes and corals get shocked? Some people say I can put tracing papers under the new lights and remove them one by one. Is this a reccomended method? Any kind of advice is welcomed.
Thanks in advance. |

Background on the system will better help people answer the question.
By shocked I am guessing you mean will the additional lighting cause them to need to be light acclimated?!?

if it's a retro kit and has SLRs just leave the reflectors off for a week and then add one, wait a few days to a week and add the other one.

Yes Slow Cobra sure eveyone has knowledge and background. But isn't it good to share views and experience? That's what this forum is all about right?

Thanks JetCat! That's a good piece of advice. I'll leave the reflectors off and do as u suggest. Thanks once again.

Slowcobra was asking you for more information about your tank like what corals you are keeping, etc., so he could offer more specific advice to you.

I know his intentions are good DarG. But it just sounds sarcastic to me. Sorry man.

It was in no way meant to be sarcastic. It is difficult for anyone to give an accurate answer without knowing exactly what you have in the tank, how much lighting is on the tank already, etc.

Ok sorry SlowCobra I misunderstood u. At the moment I have four 54 watt Dymax T5 (two white and two acitinic.) and two white ATI Plus with German made ballasts. I have some soft corals, LPS and 8 reef fishes. Thanks

Do the ballasts over-drive the bulbs(Icecaps overdrive 54w T5's to 80watts), or do they keep them at the standard 54watt rating?
If they are left at the 54 watt rating, with the tank inhabitants you have, I personally would not worry about it that much. If they over-drive them and you have some of the LPS high in the tank you may want to move them, just for peace of mind, down to the middle or bottom of the tank and slowly move them back up over about 1-2 weeks. Or if the bulbs have individual reflectors, do as JetCat suggested.
