Need help on plumbing for sump/pump...
I am installing a PanWorld 100px-x in my basement, nine feet below my tank, into a 30 gallon sump. I have a HOB overflow and will install two eductor returns(found elsewhere on this forum). Do I need to install a gate/ball valve on both returns? Should I use flexible hose or PVC? I have never plumbed this before, so all help would really be appreciated.
Thanks, John |

valves let you controll the flow of water in certian spots. Like if the left needs more flow, shut the right a little and vise-versa. I used PVC for my plumbing. It makes it look cleaner. I used tubing and it was always in the way.

Use whatever size the bulkheads are on your overflow. One of mine was 1" and another 3/4". Good luck, Terry

If your going to be using pvc know what your doing. Improperly cut pieces have to be discarded. Always use primer and then glue.Don't just glue.

jnaarnold, One more thought. Before doing plumbing. Put all equipment in place so you don't run plumbing where it won't fit. I ran into this with my skimmer. I worked it out though. Good luck.

t11t5, do you run two HOB's? I am finding out that I may not have enough flow for my pump's return capacity. (Posted also in this forum).

The first problem I see is that you are installing a PanWorld 100 PX-X 9 feet below your tank. The max head on that pump is 13'. So right away your flow is going to be a lot lower than it is rated at. Throw in a couple valves, unions, and elbows and you are at the pumps limit.
The second problem I see is that you are planning on using two returns with enductors . These put a huge amount of back pressure on the pump since their job is the narrow down the output to increase the velocity of the water coming out. That PanWorld pump is already maxed out and barely working, this will kill it. In fact, with no head that pump is just not fit to be hooked to returns with enductors, it is a circulation pump and not pressure rated. Okay, so those two previous problems are if you didn't mistype and you really are going to be using the 100PX (not PX-X) which IS pressure rated. If you do have the pressure rated pump, I would still try to elevate everything a bit so you don't have to pump water so high. Regardless of that, I would use larger diameter tubing. The PX has 3/4" intake/output, so I would use 1" and narrow down right at the pump. This is because there will be friction in the pipe and that will slow the water down...more than you would think. It will prevent cavitation on the input side and will allow water to more easily make it up the pipe on the output side and this will help increase the total overall flow. So first, make sure you have the 100PX not PX-X because you are going to need a pressure rated pump. Then you should install ball valves on the returns so you can tune flow (which you probably won't do, you will just run them wide open) but also so you can disconnect the pump if you need to work on it or replace it and you won't start to siphon water into your basement. |

I have one overflow rated at 600gph. I should get another.

how big is the tank. With 9ft of head and at least two 1in pipes your going to have to take into account more water for your sump. Use a pressure pump and as little elbows and joints as possible.
