Its Not Reef BUT, I Wanna See Pond Pics

Ok, now I know its not Reef Related, BUT it is FISH related. We all have saltwater tanks right? But I know for a fact that NONE of us left it at that! Even you mods! We all have had or still have freshwater and pond set ups.
Now, Kerry and I are getting everything together for a large back yard pond. We already have a small 100 gallon in the front garden that looks really great. But now my fish are getting bigger, having babies that survive and room is getting scarce.
So, with that, I am in desperate need to get some ideas, designs, waterfall creation ideas.

If you can, PLEASE SHOW ME PICS!!!

We were thinking about a 15 x 15 and the middle being no less then 3' deep. I want to get some input on BEST filtration units, if skimmers are worth the money and the best way to build a large waterfall. Basically, everyone that owns a large pond, what do you feel is the best investment.

Im really hoping this thread is ok to post and doesnt get removed, we are really reaching out for info on how to do this. Thanks!

I have a Pond i am trying to upload some pictures for you but i am having a problem at the minute, i live on long island so we bascially have the same weather, and they are very easy to maintain. which i am sure you know with your little pond.My pond is about 900 gallons and really takes no more then 15 minutes a week to maintain.

i have a 900 gallon pond. wish it were bigger but space doesn't allow it.

being in jersey, you might want to aim for the deepest part going down to 4-6 feet. insulation in the winter + the fact that most people don't realise that a deep pond is a lot more beneficial for the fishes health and growth.

I'd love one, but it would just turn in to a raccoon feeder here.

I should show you pix of the dead spot in my backyard where the sprinklers don't reach.

We're going to hollow that out to a depth of 2 feet and turn the whole yard into a Japanese garden, with a waterfall. Figure it'll be about 15' long, wind-ey, and about 5' across.

So is our dead spot. But we dream!

Were no strangers to this entire board!! I just wasnt sure where to post it...so I basically stuck it anywhere. It doesnt matter where it goes, I know no matter where it is, people with ponds will see it. Alright peeps....where those pics?! I need some ideas on designs!! I'll get the ball rollin, here are two pics that I just took of my pond in the garden. NOW..get out there with your cameras and bring me some of your most original pond ideas.

For us, its the herons that are after our koi, he has eaten about three of our koi. Anyway here's the pond, its pretty small at about 300 gallons. The pictures are bad, as they were taken on my sidekick...

Hey jen i have some pictures for you of my pond, again i live in new york, the dimensions are 15 long, roughly 11 feet and 9 feet wide, by 2-3 feet deep max. I was wrong about gallons, never thought about it before i calculated it to be around 2100 gallons. I built it about 6 years ago. I have two canaster filters home made on top of the water fall, with the first one have only spnges and the second one having charcaol, and some carbon every once in awhile. There is a prefilter before the pump in the pond which i have ot clean about once a week or the pressure goes down alot. other then that i add some pond salt and fill her up when need be.

In the winter , with a max of 3 feet i have never had a problem with freezing it usuallyt only freezes to about 6 inches.

Summer, the dog loves the pnd

RED we have herons too , and for awhile they were taking our koi, but the rope we put across the pond kept them from landing because they couldnt flap there wings so they jsut stopped coming, the ropes have been off for like a year now with no problem.

Yeah...when I get some spare time I'll build a pond
Until then the "parts" are out back waiting
I also have an old 400+ gallon hot tub that I may dig down & sink in as the deepest part of the pond

Yea, thats what Im talking about, thats a really nice pond! Im getting some ideas, and I cant WAIT TO DO IT!!! Kerry gets the flat rock, like you and I have going around the pond for free, so we saved TONS of money there.
Im taking my time, gathering all my materials and ideas and starting fresh in the spring. Im getting all other projects out of the way this year, so I can spend all my time doing the pond.
We have a problem with cranes (pretty sure cranes), not us right now, but my students who live closer to the lake. They keep stealing her large koi, at least now Im prepared and know that I have to take precautions.
Anything that has to do with fish in general, I love it! That and I get to plant another garden, so Im in heaven!
