Lost the article I was looking for

Hi,

I recently saw an article on the balance between CA and ALK. I know I know... how over done a topic. This one was interesting as it suggested specific numbers where CA and ALK would be ballanced even if they were above or below normal sea water levels. I went back and now I can't find it.

Anyone know where that article was?

Thanks in advance.

As long as the calcium and alkalinity are in the recommended ranges, the tank should be fine. There isn't any useful concept of "balance" beyond that, although there are a lot of formulae that are used here and there.

Thanks Bertoni,

I agree 100% that as long as both are within acceptable limits things should be "okay." I guess I'm trying to go a bit better than "okay."

Would you agree with keeping both toward the higher end of their ranges or perhaps in the middle, would be better than having one at the upper limit and the other at the lower limit?

In some tanks, higher alkalinity levels seem to cause problems with Acropora and similar corals. On the other hand, higher alkalinity and calcium levels should encourage a bit more growth in stony corals. Other than that, I don't think it matters.
