Anyone with 400w on a 75g?

Well folks, I think im going to make the leap to 2x400w XM20k in lumenarcs on my 75g. I dont want to hear weather or not you think its a good idea or not . What I want to know is if any of you have done it and been able to deal with the heat. Right now my tank handles the dual 250w Phoenix quite well.

Well...I don't have 2-400's, but I have 3-250's over my 90g. You'll have 800w, I have 750w. As you know, a 90g is just just 6" taller than a 75g.

I'm not saying whether it's a good idea or not, but I say remove your center brace like I have and add another 250w.

Rob, interesting thought....though I think im going to stick with the 400s....reason being I dont really want to remove the center brace, Im a bit worried about the tank w/out a brace, and also I can sell my current gear and upgrade to the 400s for less than it will cost for a full new 250w setup.

Well I had a single 400watt over a 29g bow and didn't have a problem with heat, but it was open top and had a fan blowing on it. I think you'll be fine as long as you have fans and AC in your house. I have twin 400's on my 120 and it never goes over 80F on the hottest days in NC.

Exactly the kind of info I am looking for mini....

I am sure I will have to add more fans, but I THINK i can get away with it. Ive got an RK2 that will shut them off if the tank gets too hot but I would hope to not have that happen.

I have 2X400 and 2X110 VHO over my 90, tanks runs around 80-82. I keep my ac at 73-74, but it runs pretty hard when my lights are on.

Kurt I have 2--400w Aqua Connects on a 120 and thinking of adding a third, the center brace is the problem, Ive cut a piece of acyrllic and screwed it to the center brace with nylon bolts, I just havent mustered up the courage to cut it out. Not sure I ever will.

Well i don't have a 75 but do have a 90. I currently just added lumenarcs. I had one 400 watt and it ws not enough. Two 400 watt was a little over kill IMO. No chiller and the tank was getting a little warm 78 to 82 (keep the house at 75). Right now i have a 400 and a 250 watt on it and the tanks at 80, going to go with two 250 watt bulbs, once i get an other bulb. Hope that helps.

check out the mini lumenarcs Horace. They will give you all the spread that you need plus extra room. The larger lumenarcs are going to be wider than your tank.

I would love a bigger tank... unfortunatly I have space issues and I dont want to put the tank in a room where I wont see it as much...I will have to wait until we get a new house for a bigger tank....I could put any size 4 ft tank but I dont want to spend the money to upgrade to a 120. If I upgrade, I want to go to ~300g or so.

Dang man, 250s aren't enough.......I fry mine with em, can I see your setup?

Try the PFO pendants that way you can go back to the 250s if you want.

Is this going to be a Sps tank? If so then you love the light that 400watts gives off. The only draw back is the heat that comes off of them very HOT. You Sps will love the extra light just go slow with them until they get used to it. To answer your question 400watt will be fine. The only two problems with them are Heat and high electric cost
