Is it just me or do these fish only tanks have fish in them that look a lot more beat up and unhealthy?

Elaborate with examples.........we're all adults enough. I would say that my fish only get scars because the occupants don't generally let **** slide and will fight back. My big coris can circle the big clown trigger like a train with head almost touching tail, fins and spike all flared up. Clown trig says f u and takes a piece out of his side. That is how it can go with some of these meaner FO tanks.

i think its exactly what you said, they are just aggressive fish that dont let things happen and wimper away, like above fish like large wrasses, tangs, triggers, and the like do not like fish picking on them without them getting even, my sohal tried to attack my bluethroat, as soon as the bluethroat felt the tail spine he took a nice chunk of out the sohal lets just say the sohal learned its lesson

I see what your saying, and to a certain extent, yes, fish in FO systems will tend to have more battle scars etc. than those placed in reef tanks. However there are trade offs...... What I am about to say is a generalization - so please don't anyone jump down my throat! A reef tank, with lower stocking levels, higher water quality, and more natural environment will probably result in certain fish species showing better colours etc and looking less "beaten up". However, what a reef tank does not afford is the heavy feeding regimes that big fish require..... but usually you do not see many bug fish in reef tanks An FO (or FOWLR) tank however is characterised by bigger, tougher fish, that need plenty of food - and they tend to get it in FO tanks, without worrying so much about water quality (that would effect corals). This results, in my opinion, in fish growing larger and being healthier (in general). So as a trade off, I think rough and tumble fish, particularly fish like triggers, are over all just as healthy, inspite of a few battle scars. There are of course exceptions - large reef tanks, mega-flow, huge sumps, and relatively very few large fish - anf a generous diet....... but these tend to be exceptions.....

Hi,
I am trying to post a pic and apparently I cannot do it. My pic is 455kg and it says I can only post 50kb. How do I make it smaller to fit. What is the secret to getting pics on here? Any help would be appreciated!! |

It really is quite simple. I thought it was going to be difficult and technical but its not - simply go to photobucket.com and register. See here for tutorial: http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...hreadid=531326 HTH Matt

happyface888,
There was a guy on RC about 5 or 6 yrs back, he had one for 13yrs at the time..... as they grow they look nothing like your pics though - to be honest they are quite ugly when big - its a pinnatus batfish I believe? Supposedly they are pretty diccult to keep - but the guy I speak of had his in with a moorish idol that he had for over 7yrs if memory serves....... amoung other fish.

the trigger is probably about 5" long. He tends to not be agressive at all. He is pretty cool. In the first pic I caught him and the eel touching lips!!! I tried to get a pic of it but he swam away everytime. The only way I got that pic was hiding behind a chair.

isn't it funny how the fish recognise camera's. In the past I could put my face up to the glass and fish would swim up to it..... but produce a camera......gone!
