Ya, that is only part of it. the other tank is coverd in hair alge and doesnt have enough lighing, Looks like they are running just PC's. the tank with the tang has FAKE coral, like the stuff you can get at PetCo. It's pretty sad.

im gonna call tomorrow and see if their keepers might be interested in attending a few local reef meetings. Try to educate em' a little and get the public a better view of what the ocean really looks like.

Unfortunately some places are not good homes. I've seen some big exhibits with multiple fish damaged from fighting and biting. This is different though and I applaud you for suggesting the zoos care givers attend your local meetings to get better insight.

my casino has 10 regals all severe case of hlle. Even worse looking than them.

Do they run ozone or carbon? My casino uses both.

Was this the Cheyenne mountain zoo? I was just there a couple weeks ago while visiting Co springs! I saw that fish, I was appauled as well. I also saw the tank with HA... was a nasty case. All that aside they did have a couple pretty nice reef tanks. Yes they did have fake coral in most of their displays but I'd imagine admissions might have to go up significantly if they had real coral in every display.

What I was more disturbed by was the large Japanese Spider Crab... it was probably 2.5 to 3 feet leg tip to tip if it were to spread out... however it couldn't because it was in a tank WAY to small for it.... instead it just sat their motionless, I thought it was fake at first because it had HA growing all over it as well!! The only reason I knew it was alive is because I saw its mouth appendages twitching.

I was somewhat impressed with their school of unicorn tangs in the shark tank however.

Strange that's happening when right up the road at the Denver Aquarium they have some excellent reef exhibits. I'd call the Denver Aquarium and let them know. Chances are someone there might care and be knowledgable enough to give that zoo some help.

wow that is harsh.

fyi, fake coral tanks dont have to look all that bad. depends if you get quality fakes, or cheap tacky crap from an lfs. there's a sweet fake only with fish tank at the aquarium i work at.

I dont even know what to say. Ive been seeing more and more of pictures like this coming from large businesses, zoo's, and aquariums. How is that we can take wonderful care of these fish with limited budgets, and some group of people with endless money cant? Its not hard to pick up a book and read about the care of fish. I just dont get it. They have to know that it doesnt look right or even healthy.

Because no one wants to stand up and take initiative or put effort into something like learning proper aquarium husbandry. Most people are too apathetic and lazy.
