sand in sump or no?

Im going to be rebuilding my sump/fuge this weekend and was thinking of putting my left over reef sand in my fuge. Its just plain old sand not miricle mud or anything. Would it have any benifits going in there or just cause problems. Thanks
Izzie

If you made it a DSB you will get some of the benefits of anarobic bacteria reducing nitrates. I used sand in my fuge and have found it to be a nice place for the pods to feed, and other wierd stuff to grow in.

try about an inch depth ... would give some room for stuff to settle - - other other stuff to live. i wouldn't do much more than an inch - inch and a half.

It's not how much, it's how deep. I'd go for at least 4 1/2 inches.

If you are going to do it put in at least 4.5 inches of very fine sand. Unless it is separated from the skimmer and return by a barriar I would not suggest it. I did it and it been a pain in the rear. If it's separated you should be fine. In fact I'm redoing my sump right now and I am going to be having a 6" sand bed.

No sand. Too hard to clean out.
