Doahh's 90 gallon Saltwater Conversion

Hey everyone I have a 90 gallon tank and it's just a simple freshwater tank right now and I think I'll make it SW. My first step is to get rid of (sell) the current fishies.

Step Two-a is the Sump/Fuge:

it's 3'9" long
1'6" high
12"deep...
The first baffle is now only 9" tall
the fuge is 1'7" of the length

there are 2 separate inputs... the left is the fuge the right is the skimmer... they both drain into the pump return (off center)

Step Two-b is the DIY Live Rock...

Step 3 is plumbing plumbing plumbing

Step 4 is the cycle

step 5 is the aggressive setup

Step 6 is the Reef Conversion (I currently only have 192 watts of PC)

Doahh

Great start. I would suggest you go with marco rocks for your LR. They are cheap and very very good. For lights I would suggest T-5s....I got mine from Reefgeek.

I think I may do T5's... I'm making my own rocks out of Portland Cement, Oyster Shells, and Sun Salt... go into the DIY Forum and go to "The Ultimate DIY Live rock"

i wouldn't use spray paint - - just go to the local hardware store and pick up a small can (quart?) of latex ... i did three different colors with a sponge, or rather my wife did - - in blue -- on the back of my glass tank ... looks pretty sweet & brings some depth with the different colors over-layed.

my $.02

OK I'll use latex paint. Should I do 2 separate overflow boxes or just do one tank wide (4') toothless overflow?

I need to have 2 separate outputs because I have a fuge side and a skimmer side that go into a single return...

OK I got a great deal on 80lbs of Live Rock, an AMS G2 skimmer, and 40g Sump/Fuge with all the blumbing... all for $300... I got all the reciepts and the plumbing is 300 alone...

Personally, I would go directly to the reef setup since you want to get there eventually... Invest in some good lighting up front so you can head in your eventual direction... The last thing you're going to want to do is tear the tank down to pull out an aggressive fish that really doesnt belong in a reef environment.

My current Blue Tang
Some form of Lion
Foxface
and a SFE
maybe a flounder if I figure it is compatible. (I do have a source where it can go when it's bigger)
