Talking New Guy starts new tank.

Well I took the plunge. I started my first tank. I bought a 30gal tall. 24in H X 24in W X 12in Deep. I plan on doing a nice little reef in it. So far I have sand, 2 chunks of Live rock (they really are just little chunks ) and of course water from the wifes set up!

At this time I have a 24in power compact strip with the standard 1 white and 1 blue bulb. Its cooled by 4 small fans. want to upgrade to T-5s soon.

I plan to add a small sump to it and make a custom stand for it.

As far as live stock goes. I want to really have a nice amount of corals in it. LPS and SPS. For fish I would like to put in a Maroon Clown for sure (according to liveaquaria im ok as far as tank size goes) However I would like to add a starry or lawnmower blenny. Also would like to add a little Neon gobie. The Neon im not really worried about, but im wondering if two 5 inch fish would be too much in my 30. Any thoughts or ideas on this?

Thanks for reading and I will post pics soon.

Brian,

Welcome to the madness that is called reefing

Sounds like a good first setup. I think you'll be ok with those fish in 30g. Do you plan on using a skimmer? If not just stay on top of your water changes. I think you'll be very happy with T5's on that tank, 2x24w will fit perfectly and give you a lot of light. What kind of corals do you plan to keep?

I was a little sceptical at first, but with the back painted and water and sand in, its already starting to take shape and look like a good idea.
We're having some camera issues, but will try get some pics posted soon.
