Nemesis?

Does anyone have a nemesis in their tanks. I mean something that you got, ended up changing your mind and cannot remove without tearing your tank down?

beginning of the story:
I got a small tank so that my 1 year old son could grow-up helping and have interest in the tank. He loves to look at the colors and point at the hermit crabs. When I got the tank I got 3 blue-green chromis, and a 4 stripe damsel. Evenutally I added some peppermint shrimp and some camels. He would watch them hopping around and laugh. Then one day my wife saw this dottyback at a petco and decided he was nice and colorful and would make a fine addition to the tank.
I came home and he was in there (no QT). All the fish got sick in about a day and were laying and gasping. The tank tested fine and none of the shrimp were having problems. 2 chromis and the 4stripe died. The dottyback looked bad, but I thought that i would let him die in piece. Well that little Ba$*@#d recovered and promptly disembowled the chromis. Then he went on a hunting rampage for shrimp legs (I guess like crab legs for us). The giant feather duster had his feathers ripped off, and then the dottyback entered his tube and pulled out segments and munched on them.
I tried to catch him for 2 weeks and gave up. He outsmarted the fish trap and me with the net. Whenever I get near the tank, he dodges into the rockwork and peeks out at me. I have stopped feeding the tank and he still lives (with a fat belly) so I guess he is eating pods.
So now I have a tank with 1 fish that hates me and won't let any interesting crustaceans into his domain. But he is kinda starting to grow on me.
Anyone else have a nemesis?

I feel for you. I have one of these...bought at Petco by my husband...I had no idea how aggressive they could be... I now have an aptasia problem because he ate all my pepermint shrimp...

The only difference in our stories is that I have a Coral Beauty (AKA Boss Hog) that keeps the Neon Dottyback (AKA Hannibal lecter) in line.

Good Luck!

I have one of those also. He killed a cardin in a day. I just put a tang in with him and he is behaving himself. I think they will leave bigger fish alone.

I only have a 25 gallon, so large fish are kinda out of the equation. At least he helps keep my tank understocked!!!

Yeh, my blue reef chromis that is supposed to be a peacefull fish... Yeh right.

But yes, it has grown on me, and it is a pretty cool fish. When he goes from bright blue to jet black, its "chompy" time, I swear I can feel his anger.

Such an angry little fish. I have to live with a "semi" pink margined wrasse because of his issues.

I had just one chance to catch him in a trap. Just one, and I failed, he is forever wary now.

It has been funny watching my new large scotts fairy wrasse put him in his place though. I am expecting "chompies" hyper-dominance will lessen now that he is no longer the total boss of the tank...
