I use mag float type magnet stuff for mine with a micron filter pad between the magnet and the inside of the acrylic. For those stubborn coraline algae spots, I use the dobie pads from 3m.

No, I just used the pad straight out of the box. It nailed all the little patches, as well as the big stuff. Not sure about a 31" deep tank, as mine is only 24"

Yeah those are the right ones. The way it was explained to me is that the stuff the dobie pads are made out of is softer than the acrylic, so it wont scratch the acrylic, but it scrubs the hell...

I have a diamond in mine and he does wonders with the sand. I guess the only problem I have is its usually kinda cloudy where he is in the tank. Kinda like the pig-pen of aquaria.

The biggest problem with the overflow boxes is when the siphon breaks and your pump continues to pump water into your tank...thus causing a big mess! :)

I drilled my tank and have never looked...
