I do not think it will come down by itself. I don't think the cycling is the cause of the high pH. Straight out of my tap water it is 8.8. All my other tanks (freshwater) also have ph's of 8.6-8.8....

Actually this is a plastic swing arm hydrometer Coralife "Deep Six". I've just been leaving it proped up in the tank so I can walk in the room and look at my sg whenever I want.
