Is that what that is???
I have one large sun coral, and I see things just like the pic above in a number of places in my tank. I'll keep a closer eye on them now. Stu

Mr. Borneman says it's a tubastrea.
There are also strawberry anemones, etc., that look somewhat like that, too. Different color, though.

I was taking more pictures of the baby. Any clue what this thing (the hot pink thing) might be that's come up next to it? Thanks!

Sorry, I was playing around with the camera's settings and came up with this shot. Loook at how big those baby brittle stars are compared to that poor polyp. How will it ever survive in this hard, cold world?

The polyp seems to be building tissue today:
Can you tell me what the clear thing with blue spots is at about 5 o'clock in this photo? Thanks!

Update picture. It's not a whole lot different tonight, so I thought I would just list the URL to save everyone's bandwidth.
http://65.102.221.68/IMG_2790.jpg While I was waiting for a conch to get out of the way so I could take that photo, I thought I would take some photos of each of the tubastrea specimens I have. If you are interested, here are those URLs, too: http://65.102.221.68/IMG_2774.jpg http://65.102.221.68/IMG_2775.jpg http://65.102.221.68/IMG_2783.jpg

I thought it was probably time to give an update on this little guy. Okay, there was a good photo op and I couldn't pass it up. It seems to be doing pretty well despite a being in a place that obviously gets a lot of traffic. Even a little coralline on its skeleton.

I've now found a couple more babies. These are growing atop a powerhead. I'm so proud....

I also took another picture of the original baby tonight. What do you suppose this silly thing is doing?

Do you have a link that discribes the foods you give and how often you give them?
Have you documented your husbandry practices? Like a Umm, fish menu. That would be nice, yes, yes it would. Or........ the Umm, fish guide to happy reefing.

Oh, heck tkracer, I'm sorry. I didn't notice your post 'til now. I was just coming to update the thread and there's your post. Honestly, I'm not too pleased with my husbandry practices this week, but.... I do have a link somewhere. Let me look for it.
In the meantime, the update: It looks like I've lost the first baby. It seems that a Valonia algae settled on top of it and I didn't notice for a few days. The two polyps on the powerhead seem to be doing fine, though. New pictures: The baby polyps: Feeding the baby polyps:

My apologies for being so straight-forward, but you can use freeware program IrfanView (small executable file) for resizing your photos. On forums people generally ask to keep photos down to 500x500 pixels, but sometimes picture is worth 700 pixels.
In the same program you can make the photo lighter, more contrast and sharp, correct color shades. Very simple and efficient, unlike big programs. Another option is using Webshots (free too), it places thumbnails on the page, who is interested - may click on them. |

I have no problems with your being straightforward. You are exactly the second person to ever tell me that my photos were too large (the first was last month) and I wasn't offended then, either. So, since then I've made them smaller, as in the last three photos above.
I hope they were worth the download time for you.

Tjey are very worth the download time for me, your photography is great, don't let anyone tell you different. When you are working with such great detail and clarity, I love the size. If someone is not willing to wait and look at them, fine, move on. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
