The Early Show/Finding Nemo/Tetra

I couldn't believe what I just saw on the Early Show. CAROL HUNTLEY WEBER a spokesperson for TETRA on the show was showing how to set up a saltwater tank.

A <15 gallon bow front was presented while Carol Huntley Weber from Tetra placed in a Blue Tang, Two Clownfish, Two Seahorses, and a Brittle Star.

She also made a statement that implied that the fish for the hobby were farm raised in Florida. I don't have the exact quote but I am sure that someone can post it.

Did anyone else see this? I am extremely *issed. I thought the whole Nemo issue was in the clear until I saw this. I also don't know what she said in the earlier part of the show. Is there any other pertinent information? Does anyone have a tape recording?

Anyone else see this? Please respond

Angry

We just saw it and were disgusted! TETRA promoted irresponsible fishkeeping! Uninformed people will be running to the LFS thinking how simple it is to keep saltwater aquariums! If anyone has an actual transcript they shoud post it. It will make you all sick!!

...according to the TETRA rep on the Early Show...just use tap water and tap water conditioner...no metion of salt...for saltwater fish!! I guess just add Morton's as needed!!!!

....anybody own a U.S. farm raised Pacific Blue Tang?...yes, Matthew she did say that!

...or how about just throwing seahorses in the mix? No mention of environmental issues and difficulty maintaining in the captivity.

...why would CBS use a primarily FW industry rep to discuss care and maintenance of saltwater aquariums...I guess to just promote their products!!

I'm going to write to CBS, earlyshow@cbs.com and TETRA, consumer@tetra-fish.com. Anybody else?

I'm extremely disappointed in TETRA and the media! Two thumbs down to CBS and TETRA for making it seem that saltwater aquariums are as easy to keep as a pet rock.

I saw it too. Can't believe what I saw. I think it was a 5 gallon mini-bow!!! She just poured the fish into the mini-bow from a smaller bowl. Made me sick. Tang looked so large in that small bow.

I sent separate emails to each address. I just went back and read the one sent to Tetra and I think I was a bit too harsh I should have waited about 30 minutes before emailing them, but I was afraid I'd get lazy and forget about it.

Nope, but there are several of the local group member that have massive amounts of stock/frags going all the time. You should check it out:

We have a very active group (for a local group) and are growing rapidly.

I was outraged and I think everyone who gives 2 rats ***** about this hobby should send these people an email. What we saw was exactly what most of worried would happen with the finding nemo movie coming out. These companys need to know what they could have caused and should do something about it. So please write the email. Let them know how you feel, even if you did not see it, those that did can tell you exactly what was said, and you sould be outraged like the rest of us!

I guess they consider a fish just a product, and not a living thing.
