The Brown's 1st Tank
We are new to the hobby and have been getting setup for about 4 months now. I have installed the RODI system, storage tanks, built a custom Sump/Refug system and now we are putting water and sand in the tank. Here are some pictures.
The RO/DO and storage tank system. Next is my Wet/Dry filter turned into a sump with my custom refugium system. Live rock will be going into the sump where you see the egg crate. Pics of the RO/Di water going into the tank. More coming soon.

Alright we put salt and sand in the tank and this is what I am getting after 24 hours.
This picture was from 2 days ago and it has started to clear a little. I will put another pic up tonight after I get home. It's still not clear though. |

Great start, cant wait to see how this turns out! Are you going to buy LR or do you plan on curing LR in the tank?

We aren't exactly sure yet.
I think our corals will be mostly LPS and we really like the different varieties of tangs. We see so many cool fish when we go to the lfs we just want one of everything But it took us 4 months to get water in the tank...I think we will have plenty of time to generate a list of fish and coral. We will let you know as soon as we decide!! |

Just looks like some tubing connecting the drain to me.
What tangs are you looking at? You will be limited with a tank that size.

despite the tight fit of that clear section of hose, I'd still put some clamps on the connections.... just so I (you) can sleep better at night.
good job so far!

We also got the live rock in today, Got some nice pieces, 50lbs. We are looking for another 50lbs. So we rinsed them off and my wife put them in the tank.

Woke up this morning and the tank was pretty much clear. Just some particles floating around. We are going to put on a filter sock and most likely keep it on to increase water clarity.

Alright when I got up this morning the tank was ALOT clearer
I also added some clamps on my clear hose thats going into my sump I did not like the silcone that I used to mount the runoff from the fuge so I got a bulkhead and redid that setup

Added more water and got my fuge filled. I dont have the stuff to make up the fuge yet, will this weekend hopefully. I just wanted to get the right amount of water to get the salinity that I want. Right now just a hair below 1.02 the minimum
And the sump in action. Still going to be putting live rock in the empty space on the left, where the bio would normally go in the wet/dry filter. So now cycling begins.

Looks good. Putting those clamps on was a good decision. Are you planning on keeping the S.G. at 1.02 or are you going to raise it to the NSW value of 1.025?

I would not recommend adding the LR to the bio ball compartment. Any media that goes there will be equal to bio balls since it is a trickle filter and not fully submerged. Basically anything you put there could become a nitrate factory.
