Pattern for twistlock flange?

Does someone have a suggestion or advice on how to best make the patterns for twistlock flanges?

anyway....

http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...ht=ghostscript

That thread has a postscript program to plot and print the patterns. There are severl versions in the thread... you have to read the whole thing. I modified the program to fit my needs but can't seem to find what I did with it.

I had seen that thread, I bumped it the other day I was able to scale this .gif in photoshop so I could make the templete.

I was being lazy and hoped someone just had a scalable file made already.

Cool, pm me with your e-mail and I will send it over. I have it saved as a .psd and a .bmp which I believe are both scalable.

Nice! Hopefully this helps someone out in the future.

I think I see some particle board sawdust and a bandsaw in my very near future. Where is a good palce to find gasket material Bean? This project doesn't require a complete watertight seal, do you think shower pan liner would work? I have a bunch of that laying around.

I get my sheet rubber from ebay a guy named rubberman or something. McMaster and Grainger carry it as well. Shower pan liner and pond liner from HD and lowes will also work for gaskets.

O-rings from McMaster and Grainger... or local hardware store (not likely anymore) or local hydraulics shop... expensive and a PITA to deal with these guys.

I think my first attempt came out pretty good. I used black airline tube split in half for the gasket, although I think I will go ahead and buy the real deal since it's pretty cheap. I think if I was going to make a few of these I would make the jig to ramp the wings but, hand filing and sanding works for just doing one. Everything was done on the router table.

be prepared to do some hand fixng too... It took me some time to get the ramps to pull against the seal evenly on mine. Silicone grease helps greatly to get things broken in.

Thanks for the link gresh... I will add it to my bookmarks under ummmm.... rubber and o-rings

I have maybe 2500 bookmarks.... it is getting hard to keep them sorted and oroganized, let alone search through them for something. I wrote an IE add-in to do just that, but never finished it. A database driven IE favorites folder with keywords etc.

This is the set I bought. I happen to have a Harbor Freight store near by so that was convenient. They are approx the same price.

I picked up some sheet gasket today from the local We$t Marine

I also made a second flange, now that I understand what measurements are critical I think I got pretty darn close to CNC quality milling.

I will be curious to see how the sheet type gasket works.

In general the larger the contact area, the more force is needed to compress the gasket enough to make a good seal.

How long until you have this on the skimmer?

Ahh ok. Looks good... I assume you will be putting a knob or handle on the lid to facilitate removal?
