Algae-trapping filter?
Looking for a simple - internal pump driven filter that could be used to capture loose hair algae (when scrubbing rocks), before it floats off in the tank water and becomes trapped on other rocks. I envision a cheap canister filter with a simple, washable bag filter instead of filter media. A tooth brush or other brush could be zip tied to the suction end tubing. Anyone know of such a filter and where to get it?

Yep, this is basically what we're already doing with fingers or a small brush. Currently trying to suck up when siphoning water during water changes. Any ideas for an inexpensive canister filter with pump that could be used to suck and capture the algae removed - instead of using a siphon hose? (Would extend the cleaning time - currently limited to the 20 gals. removed during water changes. Thanks!

Maybe a H.O.T Magnum? You can find them pretty much anywhere on the internet.

Kinda what I was thinking. And maybe replace the filter with a filter bag of some type if clogging issues...

Yeah i like the Magnum. I got the bigger version and it is very flexable with media types.
