Need help choosing new salt mix

I've got my ca reactor dialed in, so my salt mix needs have changed. I've got a bucket each of IO and RC here, both tested over 11dkh. I need something lower.

I need a salt with 10dkh or lower alk, and consistency from batch to batch. Any suggestions?

Yeah ....does anyone make a salt that goes like this:>>>>>>>

CA-420
ALK-9
MG-1300
???????

I would like to stop having to adjust my IO salt with CA and MG...gets old buying supplements for that

Anyone got the MG params on fresh Reef Crystals water mixed to 1.025 or 1.026????

Really? I switched to IO because my TM was nowhere near that. (like 350/7/900 @1.025)

Snaps, supplements are cheap. For about $50 you can get enough suppement for Ca, Alk, and Mag to last a 500g tank 10 years.

See my IO is coming out to 11.3 dkh @1.025, too high when using a reactor.

Did tm come out to 350/7/900 @1.025 consistently?

TM Pro Reef, every batch I have tested has been at,

S.G. 1.025
CA: 420
Alk: 8.3 dkh
MG: 1245

I have been using this salt pretty much since it was released, very consistent, much less supplementation necessary than with other salts, mixes easily and fully dissolves.

The formulation on the TM Pro is different than the original formula. Original TM assumes that a certain amount of mineral hardness is present in the source water, much the same as IO. Pro-Reef is made specifically for systems running a reactor and using ro/di water for mixing.

Rich- I suppose that you can get supplements that cheap if you are comfortable putting road grade products in your tank. I for one am not comfortable with that and it would cost me much more money to supplement a salt mix that does not mix to the proper parameters with supplements that I am comfortable with (NOT Dowflake, Magflake, or Mrs. Wages. my reef is worth more than that to me) than to use TM Pro.

I use HW marine mix Religiously..
I heat my water to match tank and drop a venturi powerhead in to mix and leave it 24 hours before hand..Salt always mixes clean and disolves quick

Consistantly

S.G. 1.025
CA: 450
Alk: 9.0 dkh
MG: 1350

You are right, Mrs. Wages is food grade. So is Arm & Hammer. Still not something that I would use in my reef.

NuclearReefs- Those are pretty good numbers. How is the QC? Do they have batch numbers and retain samples of their salt for comfirmation?

its the same... I been using it for 8 years of my 13 in the hobby,, its lab grade and doesnt change....

Ive tried a few here and there's (club group buys) switching and always disapointed and go back to it...

I use there bio-calcium, strontium, trace elements and iodine (only use this once a month).

I can tell you as someone who is in the industry that there are no salts on the market that use lab grade ingredients. The bags of salt would be over $200. Most, if not all, use food grade components. If you don't believe me, look into the cost of bulk chemicals. FWIW, there are varying degrees of marketing fluff being used by some to describe the grade of ingredients used.

That being said, let your animalas be the judge of which salt to use. If you have success with TMPR, than stick with it. If you have sucess with something else, stick with that.

Hey Steve, I just switched to Korallen-Zucht Reefer's Best Salt. It's expensive but I'm trying to get to the next level.

SG 1.025
Ca 420
dKH 8
Mg 1290
K+ 380 ---> this is the biggest selling point.

Here's where you can get it.

Actually, Randy Holmes Farley uses all the same stuff I do. He's lab tested it, and most of it is more pure than the stuff sold in the aquarium industry. Most of it is lab grade, or close, we just bought in bulk for group buys.

If you want to ignore that (ESV,Kent, TM, etc) Kalk is just repackaged Calcium hydroxide, fine, but saying you can't use the industrial grade stuff is silly.

The whole " I wouldnt use it" beacause it doesnt have a TM/Kent/Deltec/ESV/etc lable on it, is ignorant, and non productive.

For the 200g bucket I bought, and the 4 or 5 small sample boxes I had, yes.

No way in heck to justify paying $70 a bucket when I can get IO for $29.99

I just switched last week. I have no opinion good or bad, just that all the elements are at good levels.

agreed, i have been using nothing but mrs wages and baking soda and prestone driveway heat for years; there are enough expensive things in this hobby already, no need to shell out more cash for something exactly the same as these at 1/10 of the price.
