DIY water top off system

How do you make a simple water top off system. I can't keep up with adding fw, and hate dumping in 2-3 gals of fw at a time.....

Best way to add top off if used with kalkwasser is to drip it based on a 24h method. I mix my stuff a day ahead so it can settle. then i take an airline tube and put a knot in it and adjust the drip rate according to how tight the knot is.

Adding freshwater alone can drop you calcium, alk, and even pH levels. But seeing that you have next to nothing worth of corals that will pull calcium out of your water with the exception of coraline alge, you would use less of a dosage.

Use a 1g bottle with FW or mixed water and just drip it, it will help keep the evaporation rate. you will however once in a while have to top off or adjust it to drip more.

it's a 55gal tank and a 29 gal tank. I won't be able to use a gravity drip since there is no place to put it above the tank.
Is there anything reliable with float switches, or anything....

I need to do the samething... I was thinking of doing the air pump method... I am going to use a glass carboy and hook up a timer to an air pump and have it come on a few times throughout the day to dose kalk water... maybe later on I'll get more technical with float switches and such, but right now I have everything to make this system laying around the house...

You should be able to find everything you need at aquahub.com (used to be floatswitches.net)

Link

Hope this helps.

not DIY, but i use the Auqa Medic Niveaumat SP3000 - works great. It's basically a dosing pump that has a built in level switch.

I use mine to pump water through my DIY kalkwasser reactor, but it is not required to work that way. Definately worth the $ in my opinion.
