Deionizing resin

Recently I finished cycling my 90 gal tank I bought used from a guy for 650$ and It came with ALOT and I mean ALOT of stuff. for starters I got

90 gal tank w/ dual overflows and overflow kits
tank stand and cover
2x250w PC lighting units with brand-spankin-new bulbs
30 gal sump
2 rio 2100 pumps
1 iwaki md-30rlt
2 powerheads
1 coralife protein skimmer (replaced with w/ a PM ES-100 w/ mag 7)
1 ro/di unit

and thats just for starters. Needless to say I felt like could and should use everything I got.

down to the topic at hand

with this literal plethora of aquisitions, I got a TON of deionizing resin. I read some articles about running resin in a media reactor as part of the system. That sounded a bit off to me but since I know nothing about running resin as part of the system, it sounds like an interesting proposition. So I ask your opinions of this concept before I jump into something stupid.

your thoughts?

I've honestly never heard of that before. It seems to me that the media would remove trace elements and whatnot from your tank water, plus why use it when your water has already been dionized. I wouldn't try it.

I am still looking for those articles for you ereefic.

I knew this sounded off. I know the resin was for the ro/di unit but this artice, in short, was going on and on about purifying water under a constant flow and so on. I thought about its properties of removing trace elements as well, but like I said, I dont know much about the subject aside from screwing in the hose and letting the water flow.

I think ill just forget the idea since it can potentially ruin my tank.

Remember that there is a shelf-life concern with DI resin. I don't know hold old that resin is, but carefully monitor its performance with your tds meter to see if it is still in good shape.
