6000 gallon system - Project.

Here's what I've been up to lately. Working on this project here locally that's going in a restaurant.

First tank is approximately 4000 gallons
2nd tank is approximately 1000 gallons
and 2 200 gallon pentagons.

The sump is 4ftX4ftX6ft. There are 2 sand filters, 1 bio filter, Ozone, UV, enough carbon to encase Han Solo, and a HUGE RK2 skimmer.

Here's some pictures of the big tank coming together:

Here's a shot of the sump at delivery:

And a shot of the self cleaning bio tower.

Here's a nice shot of the finished BIG tank:

Here's a shot of one of the 2 - 200 gallon tanks:

Here's the main tank and the stand loaded on a flatbed. The tank itself weighed approximately 7200 lbs empty. The stand was built in 2 15 foot sections that were bolted together onsite.

Here it is all covered up and ready to go.

The tanks all arrived yesterday and we spent all day unloading (with a crane) moving them with forklifts, winches and LOTS of inginuity and manpower.

I'll have pictures of the unloading and initial install process later. Then onto the plumbing...

The restaurant is Silver Bay Seafood.

Yeah - it's pretty amazing. The pictures do not do it justice. I hadn't seen the tank until yesterday - it's truely HUGE....

The acrylic is 2" thick. The weight of the tank is 7200 lbs.

What are the dimensions? My guess is 30-feet long, 6-feet front
to back, and 36" tall. How close am I?

I gotta see this in person. Where is this restaurant located?

Oh, one more question: What is a "self-cleaning bio tower"?

you're exactly right on the dimensions.

Restaurant is located in Simpsonville, SC. It's scheduled to open in September. Hold off on the road trip quite yet

The bio tower... Think bioballs in a container with SUCH high flow that no particulate matter accumulates. The balls (smaller than standard) are tumbled and spun. Effectively takes the place of liverock, since the majority of this system will be lacking rock.

Not really. But if you want one, I'll have a quote written up.

Put it this way, it's worth every penny.

Here's some more pictures.

Here we are lifting it off the truck with the crane:

Here's a HUGE timeframe later - when we had it set on the stand inside... LOTS of work getting it in there, 7200 lbs of acrylic is very hard to move. And once you have it set... It's not going anywhere.

Here's a good shot that gives you an idea of the height of the stand.

And here's me in the "pit" unhooking the sump. That was an adventure on it's own. The pit is 8 feet deep and has a 20 foot ceiling. The room is about 8 feet wide and the sump is 6 feet long by 4 feet wide. We had to use a winch/pully system and straps to lower it into the pit. I was standing underneath that thing as it was dangling above me.... Felt a little bit nervous

More later..

Holy cow! Last time I saw acrylic that thick I was looking at a bank teller on the other side! (Ok not entirely true, I believe the acrylic at the monterey bay aquarium is over a foot thick).

I'm curious though how effective side overflowers are on a tank that's 30 feet wide.

there is going to be a LOT of flow through that tank. No worries about stagnant water.. trust me

The 4k and 1k gallon tanks will be fish only. The 2 200 gallon tanks will be softies/LPS.

All tanks will be lit by MH lighting.

Only 3 1/2 hours away from me, I can see a road trip in the near future. Do you do smaller projects like 400 gallon tanks? ; )

Yes I am a very busy person indeed. Luckily I have tons of energy even with 4 kids, 7 dogs and my little cube tank. My gardening has suffered a bit lately though ; )

Less than a million, more than 59 cents....

I'm not really at liberty to say how much it's costing. Sufficed to say it's probably a lot less than you're thinking.

Nice. Can you tell us more about the sump itself? Material is made of? Where do you get something like that? I have been trying to find a 250-300 sump for my system without having to spend a small fortune in making one out of acrylic.

Custom built by a guy in FLA from fiberglas. Really solid construction. The 6" overflow inlet goes to a dispursion grid that will flow over the 12 or 16 (I forget which) holes that you can see in the picture. Each one will be fitted with a filtersock stuffed with carbon. The second 6" inlet (on the side) flows from the skimmer outlet.
