Magnet

Ok, I'm a blockhead. I bought an algae magnet and didn't ask how to it. Do you just drop it in or what?

There are two magnets. One has a smooth, felt-like side and the other will be a little rough so it can remove the algae. Put the magnet with the smooth side on the outside of the tank and place the other inside the tank. Be careful not to get a piece of sand between the magnets as you can create a scratch in your glass. Also, watch out for the ends of the tank. If you come to the end and you push too far, the inside magnet will lose it's connection with the other, and crash down inside the tank.

Also, My experience with algea magnets has not been good. I've tried these magnets twice, and both times, within a few weeks, they started to show rust on the edges and causing algae blooms. So do not store the magnets in the tank. When you are done scrubbing, take them out, rinse them and pat them dry. If I left the magnets in the tank, I would get massive algea blooms, until I found out that the magnets were what were causing the algae blooms. I no longer use the algae magnets, I bought a 30" fiberglass rod with a razor blade attachemnt on the end. After every use, I remove the blade, rinse, and pat it dry. I replace the blade about once per month, cheaer than buying new magnets every month.
