What did you pay for your AGA Reef Ready tank?

I was just wondering what everyone around the country paid for their AGA Reef Ready (specifically 90 gallon) because it is so hard to get a straight answer out of the LFS.

Are they loud?
Are they worth the extra money.

I paid $205 for my 90 AGA reef ready. I would have to check the receipt at home to be 100% certain, but that is what I remember.

It was on presidents day. They had a sale, but I can't remember the precise details. I believe it was 10% off.

I just visited a LFS in Atlanta located on Peachtree Road about an hour ago. They wanted $959 for a Oceanic 120RR and $1259 for a Oceanic 140RR....I thought those prices were outrageous.

We have a local store here in New Jersey that sells them pratically at wholesale.

A 75 AGA RR is $155.00

A 90 AGA RR is $195.00

And an Oceanic 75 RR is ~$250.00

Just thought I would share the info.

Those prices probably don't include the standpipe kits on those AGA 'S though do they?

I just ordered my AGA tank.... $335 for 90 gallon RR and $70 for the acc kit!
Lucky me I have a friend that can buy it for me at 20%-30% off.
Is that a bad price? $335+$70=$405 (This was at my local Petco!)

So does anyone have any thoughts as to how loud? Or if it's worth the money to get a RR?

You asked, 'Is that a bad price?'. That is a bad price in my area. I am in VA. That may be a fantastic price in WI, but here in VA one could expect to pay less than $335.

In addition, I did not order the standpipe from AGA. You can easily build a silent standpipe for much less than $70.

I currently use the durso standpipe design on my 38g tank and it is awesome. Do a search on this site for durso standpipe or go to Durso's site for more details. (www.rl180reef.com) Go to his site anyway, its awesome.

I think the RR option is worth the money. I currently have overflow boxes on my 38g and they are unsightly and not cheap. You will probably pay just as much for the overflow boxes as you would if you just bought the RR.

About the noise issue, if you were to try the Durso standpipe I can assure you it is very quiet. And it is not difficult to put together (heh, if I can build it, then it must be easy! )

forbze16, waht shop is Jersey. If they can do for me what Inter american is doing on a 230 I will go local. IA can do 230 with custom overflow, euro braced, box steel stand and shipping for a bit under 2K. What do you think?

Regards

LFS or MO?

It seems that most people get their non-custom tanks from the LFS. Anyone got their via MO and can recommend? I'm in a similar dilema as trickyblue...

Thanks,

Tom

Im getting a Oceanic 140rr with glass top, strip light, cherry stand and model #2 sump for $1425.
Oceanic is having a special on this 140 rr setup till end of may. Prices vary depending on LFS. ANother LFS said 1580 for the same setup on sale.

Most tank manufacturers will not sell mail order because they want to protect the distributer/retailer channel. You will not be able to find a new Oceanic or AGA tank online except from possibly a private seller.

Why aquariums aren't sold on-line

I paid $700+tax for my AGA 180RR plus another $50 for delivery. My main advice is to shop around. If there is more than one retailer in your area you can put one against the other to get the best price possible. There was a $200 difference for the exact same tank from one LFS in the area to another.

As for the overflow kit, I wouldn't get it. A durso stand-pipe will barely fit in an AGA overflow, (you must use the street-el) but the stockman version of the durso fits well.

Ernie that's a lot of money for a AGA 180RR. Maybe in TN that's a good price, heck you could have gotton a Inter-American for less (including the shipping).

Walt - The store in NJ is Aquairum Discount Center in Marlton, NJ. The store is near the Rt.70/Rt.73 circle. The 180RR goes for $489. They do carry the 225 and 230 from Perfecto. However, these might not be drillable as Perfecto uses tempered glass in many of their tanks.

Mike,

Best I could do here in Knoxville. I checked in Atlanta, and there was a huge difference in price but transporting it would have been a nightmare. The other retailer here in knoxville wanted over $200 more. They wanted over $1000 for an oceanic 180 RR.

I paid $425 for my 120 AGA RR without the overflow plumbing. That was $100 cheaper than anyone else I found around the are.

Jerseyreef is right- it is Aquarium Discount in Marlton, NJ. They have the best prices on tanks. The 10 gallon AGA I use for my sump cost $9.00.

And no the price didn't include the overflow kit. But then the only reason you would need that, especially with the Durso, or even the Stockman Mod, is for the bulkheads. But paying ~$50 for bulkheads seems a little ridiculous to me.

The Oceanic overflow kit is better anyways.
