Ca Reactors, What are you using?
I am currently in the market for a good calcium reactor. I allready own a nice regulator as well as an excellent controller. Over the years I have read a lot of what Daniel Knop has had to say and respect his opinion. I have also heard good things about his reactor design regarding the simplicity and efficiency of the units. Unfortunately, as with every other aspect of the hobby, there are 3,000 other choices on the market. I was wondering what my fellow reef keepers were using and what your thoughts are on the subject.
btw- 120gal AGA 4x4x2 125gal sump/refugium 2 x 400 12k halides 2 x 110 50/50 vho Neptune pro controller Mag Drive 1200 return pump Mag Drive 1800 closed loop Kent Nautilus PS run 12 hours/ day Bunch of other doo-dads and garbage I sold myself on. |

I have a korallin C1502 reactor. It's a decent unit but I can't get the drip to stay constant.

I have a CR-3 from MRC with the spray bar option. I picked it up used, including a regulator and solenoid valve. I plan to add a second chamber.

i have a DIY dual chamber reactor, i havent experienced a single problem like i have read about with other reactors, regarding consitant drip rates, etc etc. the only downside to the unit was that it cost about 150$ in media to only fill it half way. the good thing though is that i havent changed anything with it since i set it up and everything stays perfect. also using schuran media.

i am having a Geo reactor built now as a trade. i have built one for someone else and they really like it until they broke it.
the trade is cheaper than for me to build it. i know that ? would come up sooner or later. |

I have a MRC as well. I was concerned about dialing in my reactor when I got it because of what people had posted about reactors. At first the effulent drip would stop after a couple of days. I got a bigger feed pump and its been right on with minor tweaking for months. I am getting good growth on all my SPS and LPS since I added it. From my experience the MRC is easy to use and the cost was less then the European models.

I have a Knop and haven't been happy with it. It's flimsy, finicky, springs leaks and the effluent is hard to manage. I'm currently on the market to replace my Knop and I'm down to the H&S, Geo, MRC or Schuran. I hear really great things about the Schuran --my only problem is that it looks almost exactly like my Knop (YIKES!) Would love to hear from others on the topic.

I have a Schuran - love it. Set and forget, incredibly powerful, well built. Run it with a dosing pump and no worries!
