Georgia Aquarium Pics (dialup beware)

Well today I took a half day off work and stopped by the Georgia Aquarium this morning. It's only open to season pass holders today and tommorow.

Anyway not a lot of commentary because there are tons of pictures so feel free to ask any questions you have.

First I consider it a success already because there were lots of protesters. Probably about 100 total

Onto the aquarium

By far the biggest reef tank I've ever seen! It has only a few live corals now but they are letting it grow out and will transfer more in as they go and replace the fake stuff. Already impressive but give it a couple years and it will be absolutely incredible!!

All in all very nice. Several really really big tanks. The whale shark was cool to see and it is one of the nicer Aquariums for sure!

Keith, if you get a chance, insert spaces between the images to make the look better.

Great pics, thanks.

They were talking about this place on the Today show this morning. It was pretty cool when they showed the construction videos, and they were filling the tanks with water. Amazing to see the massive bags of Instant Ocean they dumped in with a crane.

More amusing than the tree huggers was the group of people protesting an individual spending his $280 million on an aquarium instead of helping the homeless. I am going back tomorrow and considering bringing a poster that says "Get a job and buy your own house".

It was a slow day for protests in the atlanta area so these idiots showed up across from the aquarium..

Its a sad day in America when this guy thinks its any of his business how an individual chooses to spend their own money.

Those people look like they were paid to sit out in the rain with those signs. Somebody probably found them on the street and gave them 5 bucks to stand there.

Was this aquarium funded by the City, or is it privately funded? If it was the City of Atlanta then that would be their complaint.

Other than that it's an amazing display, really like the pics of the grouper and the whale shak being followed around by the little fishes. Thanks for the pictures.

It was a gift from Bernie Marcus, the founder of Home Depot.

It was built by the Home Depot people for profit. Not sure if the city subsidized it or not.
