Breeding in a community reef tank
I have had some success breeding maroon clowns in a community tank. The breeding pair are the oldest fish in my 265 gal tank, about 5 years old. They spawn regularly, and I retrieve the larvae as described by Joyce Wilkerson. The only other mated pair in the tank are false perculas, but they are not spawning. I would like to add another pair of a species other than clowns, in the hope that they will breed and that I will be able to retrieve and raise the fry. Is this possible with fish other than clowns? What do you recommend? Can I purchase the pair on line?

Well, there are a few "breeding fish" you could try, there are always my favorite, the bangii cardinals (easy), or even PJ cardinals, but you could also try orchid dottybacks (or a few other types of dottyback). In such a large tank, you could even try your luck with a manderin pair. There are also blue assessors that breed in captivity.
As for on line purchasing of pairs, I don't know. Mark |

Check out Inland Aquatics for pairs.

You can have dottybacks like Mlassam said and even gobies in such a big tank along with the clowns.
Most people advertise mated pairs, for me thats just two anemonefishes that get along. Spawning pairs are available but are worth a lot of money. Ed |
