29g Project

Hey, thanks first of all for clicking on my thread.

Here is the tank setup i am going for (and by all means if you see any flaws or mishaps or something you just dont agree with please speak your mind).

PROP TANK
Tank:29g
Lighting http://marinedepot.com/aquarium_lig...s.asp?ast=&key= <-Plan on getting the 250w 20K HQI
Skimmer http://marinedepot.com/md_viewItem....=ACRM&ast=&key=
Powerheads http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ...AG&N=2004+22788 <-I really need advice on which model to get.
Heater http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produ...4+113767+113565
Filtration http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ...AC&N=2004+22777

I plan on having no liverock or sand, just custom eggcrate racks

It may sound cheap or selfish but in the beginning i really want to focus on the money-making corals just to justify to my parents its a worthwhile hobby.(I need suggestions on these corals aswell).

So please please PLEASE post your thoughts!!!

And if you can think of any cheaper equipment that gets the job done please inform me.

I too have a recently set up 29 gallon and would like to help but your links don't work so I don't know what you are starting with. Also, you are going to want to cycle the tank so you are going to want live rock - usually 1-2 lbs/gallon if not more.

You are definately going to need LR. If you are going into this just to make money you will be very disappointed. Aside from all the costs associated with the startup and maintenance, you'll find that a 29gal tank just won't hold enough corals to make you money. Depending on what you want to keep/sell, you'll also need more equipment. For SPS your going to need a calcium reactor. I've got a 29gal as well with mostly SPS and cannot keep up with the alk/calcium demand with kalk alone. Most of my corals are frags.

Yeah you will need some live rock, possibly live sand - to help boost the cycle of your new tank. Sounds great otherwise.

I'll agree with what has already been said, the links you provided don't work, and you should really look into getting some live rock. Why do you not want LR anyway?
