Hi Matt,

It depends what you want a Macro for, if you are looking to observe all the life within a reef-system, then perhaps a Macro camera isn't the answer(but then I am biased) I have posted a few pic's to illustrate this in our gallery.

Regards,

Barry.

I've got a Minolta A2 which allows me to get closeup shots from pretty far away by using the zoom in macro mode. This helps so I don't disturb the life I'm trying to photograph. The A2 is an 8MP camera and I picked it up on eBay for about $550. The A1 is the same but 5MP, and should sell for quite a bit less.

I use manual mode, fastest setting and adjust the white balance to compensate my tank lights. 100 ISO.

bradleyj- I think that some of your pics are awesome and of the highest quality. You use the Kodak DX6490 on all your pics? Very impressive. Do you have any modifications or different lenses on your cam other than what comes stock with it?
BTW- I have alot of your pics in my screensaver....thanks!

Thanks Cape Coral, The Kodak is the only camera I have used,no modifications, no different lenses, just stock, straight out of the box. Just a lot of shooting and then once in a while I have a nice photo to share with everyone.

I have a Nikon CoolPix 990 that I've had for a long time and like a lot. It has an excellent macro mode. They don't make that exact model anymore but do make newer ones. You can get it used for very little now (eBay $290 right now).

Hey all,
Thanks for everyones kind replies. I'm actually going to use the camera to take macro pics of snakes, namely ball pythons and blood pythons. It's kind of sad, only a few old timers probably recognise the good ol' Bubafat...lol. I haven't been around the board much lately, moving around too much to keep a tank. Clams anyone?

Take it easy.

Matt
