How can I stop a dying moon coral
Noticed my moon coral's bottom corner has been slowly dying. Is there any way to stop it before it spreads to the rest of the coral?
Not sure what caused it but I started noticing it when it was close to my tongue coral... |

I've never personally had any Fungiids, (your "tongue coral" is a type of Fungiid coral), but I was talking recently with someone that mentioned that they have really long sweepers.

Never noticed a sweeper on my tongue coral but my moon coral has HUGE sweepers....From my coral book, the moon is supposed to be way more aggressive than a tongue.
Any thoughts on fixing it??? |

looks
looks like it seems fairly happy.. puffy and all.. my guess would be an infection.. what ive done with corals like this is.. first always handle it with rubber gloves and never touch the sides always try to get under the coral and lift from the bottom. and get some kent tech-d ?? i think thats it in the bottle it will br brownish clear liquid if its blue DONT USE IT.. anyways take and get a bucket the coral will fit in and scoop up some tank water and place the coral in the bucket also.. look for any brown gooey stuff on the damaged area if its there lightly blow it off with a turkey baster CAREFULL DONT MAKE IT WORSE by blowing it off to hard. then use the recomended dosage of the tech d and but it in the bucket with the coral and move some water arround to stir it in.. let the coral soak in this for 10 or 15 mins (you can float it or i just put my bucket under the hood to keep the water warm.. then place the coral and the contents of the bucket back into the tank.. if you see brown gunk try to suck it out first.... but after a few treatments it should be better.. also watch the flow and nearby corals just cause you dont see sweapers doesnt mean they arent fighting.. alot goes on at night and some goes on all the time with chemicals... hope this helps

Fungiids are more toxic than most corals. I still think the problem is the tongue coral.

i agree with gary. move'em apart a bit, and let the moon fix itself.

Great info!!! I separated the tongue coral about 1 week ago..it is on the other side of the tank but i suspect it did its damage before it was moved
I will try that magic coral repairing juice..it is a beautiful coral and I hate to watch it slowly die (or die at all for that matter) I will report back when there is something to report. |

Don't bother with any 'magic coral repairing juice'. The Faviid (moon coral) will recover on it's own if aquarium conditions are good.

I did get some magic juice but I'm not going to use it just yet. The receding edge looks to be in better health. I am going to take a detailed pic of it and compare it in one week's time.
