Refugium Question
Hello everbody!
i am in the planning stages for a 125 FOWLR.The tank has been a reeftank ,and an African cichlid tank.Back to the briney deep for me! I am looking at using a refugium, spec, CPR,s 24in hang on unit.If you could give me some info on using a refugium,i.e, what kind of sand, substate,LR, and critters to use.Does it need its own light source? When the main systems lights are on,do you keep the lights on the ref.off? Any and all advise will be appreciated.Happy New Year!

I have sea cucumbers, shrimp, Calerpa, LR, and snails in the refugium. I don't have any fish because I want my copepods, and amphipods to have a safe place to live and reproduce. I use aragonite in mine.
Have fun with it and start off with the basics. Sand bed, a little live rock, and calerpa. I have a separate light on my refugium, but that's only because it's separated from the other tanks. It's a 75 gallon refugium with all the tanks piped into a central sump then feed back to all the tanks. I even have baby snails, and baby shrimp in the tank. it's very interesting to watch the critters reproduce. Tim |
