Trying to delete a file that won't delete?
I have this video file on my computer that says it in use by a program or something. Anyway I can't get this thing off my computer! I have restarted many times and just as soon as windows has loaded I try to delete it but I get the same message? Any ideas?

I've tried that too and I get the "File is inuse by another person or another program. Close all programs and try again". The video works fine and Norton does not pick anything up. It's been on my PC for a few weeks and now it's just starting to bug me.

okay,, well your on XP or 2000 I assume, if you right click on the task bar and goto task manager you will have to find out what service its related to,,,,,, and kill them
You can also type msconfig in the Run line and select the startup tab because its in that I bet..... somewhere somehow

Here's what you do:
GO to your START Menu and click on CONTROL PANEL THen go to ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS Find your program you want deleted, highlight it and then click REMOVE/CHANGE Good Luck and let me know how it went!

lots of advice, but if none of the above work go in to safe made.
1. While PC is booting start pressing F8 continuously until a black screen with a handfull of options appears. 2. Choose Safe Mode 3. Be patient while Windows safe mode loads, Click your account and login into it. 4. If you are now in safe mode the monitor will have "safe mode" in all 4 corners of the screen. 5. Now try and delete the file in question. 6. Reboot and resume as usual. Safe mode will stop any unnecessary services from running on the PC while in safe mode only. Everything else will resume as usual upon normal boot. |

This is what you do... boot up into safe mode, (pressing f-8 during bootup) this will not allow the program to load into memory. once in safe mode, locate the file and delete that sucker and reboot!

I've always had a problem getting the F8 method to work for getting into Safe Mode. The other way to do it is to go to Start>Run and type in msconfig. Then go to the BOOT.INI tab at the top and check the box by /SAFEBOOT on the bottom left and then restart your computer, which will then load in safe mode. You can then find the file and should be able to delete it. Be sure you write this down, because to get out of safe mode, you will have to do the opposite. To get out of safe mode, go to Start>Run and once again type in msconfig. Then uncheck the box beside /SAFEBOOT in the bottom left corner and restart the machine again. You'll then be back in normal mode and won't have that stupid video file anymore. Be aware that this method only works with Windows XP.
