Selecting a return pump

What is the general rule of thumb when selecting a pump? If I am not mistaken, the target pump turnover is 6 times the volume of the aquarium. I am planning on adding a 30 gallon sump/ refugium to my 65 gallon tank.. What pump should I select? My LFS is trying to get me to go for the Mag 7. My dad has a fish pond in his backyard with a Becker submersible pump thats been running for years with no problems. I went by home depot today and priced one for 50 dollars that puts out 325 gal/hr. That beats the 100 bucks the LFS wants for the 7. whatcha think?

the quiet one pumps are GREAT i put gravel in them and no problems at all... easy to clean and blablabla... i think that that sounds a little low for a 65 gallon tank... i have 700 gph going thou my sump on my 55 ( a little stong but i am difusing it over the entire length of the tank

The mag 7 is a decent pump. But 100 bucks, that ludicrous. Try here Marine Depot or some of the other on line dealers. Even with shipping you ought to beat 100 bucks.
