want to pair Clarkii's

I'm going to attempt to pair my small Clarkii (1"-1.5") which I had in my nano for about 6 months or so. My eventual goal is to have a Clarkii pair host in an anemone down the road, probably one of the BRS BTA's if I can get my hands on one. My current Clarkii has been mateless, hasn't grown much in size, but has darkened to near black. Reading things in the clownfish forum, I am guessing it has aged into a she (worst case scenario). I have introduced it into the 65g, and my plan is to give it a couple weeks to settle, then introduce the smallest Clarkii I can find from a group tank (as long as it displays no aggressive tendancies to indicate that it may be a dominate female or male). Sound like a good plan?

If any BRS members has any experience with pairing clowns. I'd appreciate any advice possible. Also, any info on my future plans to find a hosting anemone would be helpful. I believe the Clarkii I have now is tank raised, I'm not sure how that will affect things though.

Thanks,
Mike

I got a pair of tank-raised Clarkiis a few months back.... I put a BRS BTA (from Scott Merrill) in the tank, and the Clarkiis were in it in, literally, less than 5 seconds. Absolutely amazing.... It's hard to believe that two little animals that have never lived outside of an aquarium knew exactly what to do when I put that anemone in the tank. Nature is just so crazy...

I had the same results w/tank raised Tomato's (immediate hosting). In addition I added a clown after I had one in the tank, they fought for a little while, but now get along great

Where did you get your tank-raised Clarkiis from? I plan to do the same thing in my 150.

Thanks!

I got them from a guy in NJ a few months back who had gotten them from either Marine Depot Live or LiveAquaria. They sent him Clarkiis instead of Ocellaris, and he didn't want to put them in his current tank (15g or 20g ) so he had them in a Rubbermaid tub. After a while, I think he felt like they needed a real home, so I picked them up at his place for $40. They've been great fish ever since!

I did this exact thing a month or so back (Clarki pairing). I added a small juvenile with my fairly large female. She beat the tar out of it/him until he was just about lifeless. They then got along great and have been a "pair" ever since.

Update!

Let the beating begin. Came across a batch of juvenile Clarkii's and decided to take one home. Introduced them earlier this evening and my original chases the other one around, semi-ignores, or buddys up with the new addition intermittently. The new clarki is about 3/4" and is still bright yellow. It was one of 3 or 4 smaller ones at the LFS that kept getting booted from the pack. Wish them luck!

I wish you luck. Have patience. I added a second smaller Clarkii to my tank in the late spring/early summer. They lived at separate ends of the tank until just last week.
